Consultation of interested parties

Under the provisions of Article 2.8 of the Agreement of Textiles and Clothing (ATC) on 1 January 1998 the European Community (EC) will integrate into GATT 1994 products which represent at least 17 % of the total volume of 1990 imports of those textiles and clothing products covered by the ATC . The list of these products is contained in Annex X of Council Regulation No (EC) 3030/93 ( l ).

The products to be integrated shall encompass products from each of the following four groups : tops and yarns , fabrics , made-up textile products , and clothing . Products shall be inte grated either in terms of HS lines or in terms of categories .

Under the provisions of Article 2.11 of the ATC members are obliged to notify their detailed programmes of integration to the Textiles Monitoring Body at least 12 months before their coming into effect .

In view of these obligations , the Commission is in the process of defining its proposal for the EC's programme of integration . All interested parties are therefore invited to submit their views on the second stage of integration so that due consideration can be made of all positions before a proposal for a regulation is forwarded to the Council .
