INTRODUCTION The dream of becoming a professional baseball player is an aspiration as all-American as the sport itself. And while baseball and hot dogs are a timeless duo, it is unsurprising that few young people are as enchanted by the prospect of becoming a professional hot dog vendor. Curiously, though, in all but a select few professional ballparks, the hot dog vendor actually makes more money than the ballplayer.1 Jeremy Wolf, a minor league baseball player formerly in the New York Mets organization, attests, “I was paid $45 per game . $3 [per] hour for 70 hours a week . I played in front of 8,000 people [each] night and went to bed hungry. [A]fter seven months of work, I left with less money than I started . .”2 Be that as it may, Major League Baseball (MLB), for its part, presides over this puzzling reality as puppeteer.3 Players at the MLB level earn astounding wealth; however, members of a major league team’s minor leagues—the multi-tiered system below it that employs thousands of Minor League Baseball (MiLB) players who form the lifeblood of an organization’s future—fight to pay rent and eat a decent meal, all while vying rigorously for a promotion to MLB. Because of the inherent symbiosis between MLB and MiLB, the wage disparity between the two entities defies common sense, but not logic: MLB is a business and a good one at that.

Highlights of the visit included eating lunch at the Three Broomsticks (we highly recommend the Butterbeer) and watching Rose as she was "chosen" to do the wand test in Olivander's Wand Shop. Only one child is chosen in a room of 20 or so, so this made the trip completely worthwhile for her! We also enjoyed the Dr. Seuss section of the park. Elanor and Rose had their pictures taken with the "real" Thing One and Thing Two from "The Cat in the Hat" while wearing their own Thing One and Thing Two t-shirts. We finished our trip with a daylong excursion to the Kennedy Space Center which included a simulated ride in a Space Shuttle. Mom and Dad were in heaven seeing all of the rockets from the NASA Space Program! The entire family agreed this was one of the best trips ever!     Blue Crabs Sign A Quartet of Outfielders Including MLB Veteran Posted by TBN(Staff) On 04/08/2021 WALDORF, Md. – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced the signing of four outfielders on Thursday afternoon, Braxton Lee, Dario Pizzano, Jordan Scott, and Will Decker. Braxton Lee joins the Blue Crabs as the team’s first MLB veteran position player on the 2021 roster. The Mississippi native made his MLB debut with the Miami Marlins in 2018 after proving to be not only a reliable bat, but also a Sportcenter Top 10 defender. At Ole Miss, Lee led the Rebels to their first College World Series appearance in 47 years. In 2014, the left-handed hitter was selected in the 12th round of the MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays. Lee had a breakout season in Double-A in 2017, which led to a mid-season trade to the Miami Marlins in exchange for Adeiny Hechavarria. He ended the 2017 season as the Double-A Southern League leader in batting average and hits. Dario Pizzano was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 15th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. After two years at Columbia University, Pizzano played eight seasons and over 700 games in affiliated baseball, reaching as high as Triple-A. Pizzano led the Appalachian League in batting average (.356) in 2012 and was named a Post Season All-Star and MiLB.com Organization All-Star. After beginning the 2019 season with the New York Mets Double-A affiliate, Pizzano made the move to independent baseball, joining the former Blue Crabs foe, the Somerset Patriots.
