Highlights of the visit included eating lunch at the Three Broomsticks (we highly recommend the Butterbeer) and watching Rose as she was "chosen" to do the wand test in Olivander's Wand Shop. Only one child is chosen in a room of 20 or so, so this made the trip completely worthwhile for her! We also enjoyed the Dr. Seuss section of the park. Elanor and Rose had their pictures taken with the "real" Thing One and Thing Two from "The Cat in the Hat" while wearing their own Thing One and Thing Two t-shirts. We finished our trip with a daylong excursion to the Kennedy Space Center which included a simulated ride in a Space Shuttle. Mom and Dad were in heaven seeing all of the rockets from the NASA Space Program! The entire family agreed this was one of the best trips ever! Kim Jorgensen/Bennett Martin Public Library/Public Services Department An interesting situation: We have a graduate student who is spending several months in Lincoln; one of her primary stops is the Heritage Room to look at some of the Loren Eiseley information found here. She is definitely using the The Gale E. Christianson Collection of Eiseley Research Materials. This collection contains the research that Christianson amassed as he was writing his biography of Loren Eiseley, Fox at the Woods Edge. What's interesting about this student -- she is from China, is studying at the University of Toulouse in France, and is currently spending several months in Lincoln, NE! Meredith McGowan Curator of the Jane Pope Geske Heritage Room of Nebraska Authors Bennett Martin Public Library "I was invited to judge 4-H Dog Obedience at the State Fair. This year it was on a Sunday, so I had the luxury of driving to Grand Island on Saturday and staying over. I arrived mid-afternoon and decided to shop and see the sites. Just to show how small Nebraska really is, one of the first stores I stopped at I bumped into Nancy, one of the Aides at BMPL. The next day I had a great time judging the very beginning novice dogs and handlers and the more experienced dogs and handlers. The kids did an awesome job, I was really impressed with the commitment they have to practicing regularly with their dogs. Afterwards, I had lunch consisting of a funnel cake with apples (one of my fruit servings for the day!) and sat with the Uncle and Grandmother of one of the children in the obedience class I judged. It was nice to get a chance to talk with them, the Uncle expressed interest in helping with his local 4-H club, so I gave him some tips on how to get started. The rest of the afternoon I spent wandering the fair looking at booths and exhibits. I ran into Vicki from Walt and her family enjoying themselves as well as another friend from the dog obedience club I belong to. The drive back to Lincoln was nice and uneventful. Overall I had a fun weekend." Corte Madera Library/Marin County Free Library came to my rescue when my husband and I took a trip to San Rafael California. The plan was to go to watch our son, Jesse, pitch in a couple of his baseball games in San Rafael California. He was a pitcher and pitching coach this year with the San Rafael Pacific’s in the Pacific Association. The San Rafael Pacific’s team ended up winning the playoffs this year. The Pacific Association of Professional Baseball Clubs is an independent baseball league based in California. The league is an outgrowth of the North American League — in which the Pacific’s were a member of in 2012. The league consists of the San Rafael Pacific’s, Sonoma Stompers, Vallejo Admirals, and Pittsburg Mettle. Amongst our plans while in the San Francisco Bay Area was to take in a Giants vs Rockies game. Not wanting to drive in the crazy traffic and parking problem we decided to take the Giants Ferry Boat. The problem was you can only get tickets to ride the Giants Ferry Boat either by Fed X or mail or order online. I didn’t take my computer and printer along so I called the Corte Madera Library to make use of their computers. After I obtained a guest pass and with the assistance of a very nice librarian I was able to purchase and print out our Giants Ferry Boat tickets online. On our return trip we visited our second son & daughter-in-law, Brad and Heather and grandson, Benjamin. They live in Lakewood Colorado.
