HERRON JOINS BIRDS’ ROTATION The newly-acquired Tyler Herron just joined the Birds’ rotation, and has already made an impact. Herron threw seven innings of one-run ball in his debut start against Cleburne. Herron comes to Sioux Falls from the Atlantic League’s High Point Rockers, completing a trade between the two clubs from this past offseason. Herron brings plenty of vet- eran experience to the Canaries. A first-round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2005, the 32-year-old has nine years of minor-league experience as well as seven in indy ball.

The Melbourne, FL resident spent time in the Cardinals, Pirates, Nationals, and Mets systems over his minor-league career, pitching in -A as recently as 2016. In all he owns a 4.61 ERA over his minor-league career, making 2018 apperances. Herron is no stranger to the American Association, having suited up for Fargo-Moorhead, Lincoln and Winnipeg over his career. Herron made 17 starts with High Point in 2019, posting a 6.05 ERA and 1.59 WHIP. He struck out 57 and walked 21 in 93.2 innings. LEEDHOLM ARRIVES WITH THE BIRDS Leedholm started the 2019 season with the in the -based PacificAssociation. The right- hander put up some impressive numbers, posting a 3.31 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 16 relief appearances. He walked just three batters in 19 innings of work.

2019 is Leedholm’s second season of ; he joined the ’s Gateway Grizzlies as a true rookie in 2018. The Lakewood, Colorado native made 15 relief appearances for the St. Louis-area club that sea- son, recording a 4.86 ERA. Leedholm pitched at the University of Northern Colorado from 2014 to 2018. He made a career-high 26 appearances his senior year with a 3.37 ERA. COONEY JOINS THE BIRDS The Canaries’ pitching staff just got a much-needed boost. Right-hander Harrison Cooney signed with the Canaries on Tuesday ahead of their matchup with Kansas City. Cooney, a former Angels and Red Sox farmhand, spent the first part of the season with the Association’s .

Cooney was originally drafted in the sixth round in 2013 by the out of Florida Gulf Coast Univer- sity. He made it as high as AA Arkansas in the Angels’ system two years later. He missed most of 2016 due to injury before the Red Sox selected him in the phase of the Rule 5 Draft that December. He spent 2017 and 2018 in Boston’s system, making it as high as AA Portland in 2018 Cooney owns a 5.02 career ERA in minor-league ball over 106 appearances (46 starts). HILL HEADED FOR TRIPLE-A IN MEXICO Birds Taylor Hill has been the class of the American Association since May. Now, he’s heading up to Triple-A ball. Hill has signed with Los Generales de Durango in the AAA Mexican League. Hill is the sixth Canary to have his contract purchased by an MLB or Mexican League team since July of last year.

Hill had an outstanding 2019 season with Sioux Falls, leading the American Association in ERA at 2.52 entering play on Friday. He suited up for the South Division in the American Association All-Star Game on Tuesday, July 23. LAGO SHINES AT ALL-STAR GAME Canaries second baseman Alay Lago was a shoo-in for the American Association All-Star Game, and when he arrived he did not disappoint. The native of Cuba slugged 12 home runs in the first round of the league home run derby on Monday night, and delivered an RBI in the fourth of the all-star game. Lago was one of four Canaries on the South Division team, along with Taylor Hill, Mike Hart and Kevin Taylor. OH MY GOSH, YOU’RE... Former Sioux Falls Canaries Team MVP Burt Reynolds is back with the Canaries after a trade with the St. Paul Saints. The Birds acquired Reynolds from the St. Paul for the reversionary rights to catcher Adrian Nieto and a player to be named later. Nieto’s contract was purchased by the on June 22; the Saints now have his rights if he returns to the Association.

Reynolds arrived in Sioux Falls in 2017, and made his presence felt quickly. Reynolds hit .283/.348/.468 with 24 dou- bles, 16 home runs and 68 RBI in 2017. He also stole 34 bases (second on the Birds) in 40 attempts.

Reynolds played 33 games with the Canaries in 2018 before heading to St. Paul midseason. He posted a slash line of .265/.349/.494 with 19 home runs and 55 between the Canaries and Saints last year. ON THE MOUND FOR THE BIRDS #32 - Mark Seyler - RHP

Meyer served as the Canaries’ pitching coach from 2007-2014, winning an American Association cham- pionship with the Birds in 2008. Prior to rejoining the Canaries, Meyer served as hitting coach in 2015 and 2016 for the South Division power- house Laredo Lemurs. He guided them to a record of 115-85 over the two seasons, and an American Association Championship in 2015. Meyer was a 23rd round draft pick by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2000 out the University of Arizona. Meyer played three seasons in the Cardinals’ farm system, reaching as high as High-A ball. Meyer went 4-7 with a 5.52 ERA in 67 appearances for New Jersey, Peoria, and Potomac. Meyer then joined the independent ranks, playing with the Allen- town Ambassadors, the Baton Rouge Riverboats and the St. Paul Saints from 2002-2006. In three seasons with the Saints, Meyer compiled a 26- 21 record with a 4.49 ERA and 200 strikeouts in 61 games played. Meyer ranks third on the Saints all-time wins’ list with 26.

Ben Moore - Pitching Coach Moore enters his second season as the Canaries pitching coach. Moore started his coaching career in 2015 as the pitching coach of the Frontier League’s Washington WildThings. In 2016 he moved to the Amer- ican Association as the pitching coach of the Laredo Lemurs. One of the greatest in American Association history, Moore spent 12 years in professional baseball. He started his pro career as an amateur free agent with the New York Yankees in 2003. After two seasons in their organization, Ben joined the Independent ranks in 2005 with the Vipers. Moore pitched for the Birds from 2008-11, and again in 2013-14. Moore is the Canaries’ all-time leader in wins (55) and strikeouts (698). His number 25 was retired last season.

Mitch Glasser - Hitting Coach Acquired by the Canaries in late June of last season, Glasser made an immediate impact for the Canaries both on the field and in the club- house. Glasser posted a .289 batting average (second-best on the team) in 67 games with the Canaries last year, as well as a .365 on-base per- centage. A former draft pick, Glasser has played in the independent ranks since 2015, when he suited up for the Frontier League’s Joplin Blasters. Glasser hit .314/.411/.417 his second year with the Blasters in 2016, turning that success into a spot with Cleburne in the American Association in 2017. He played 24 games for the RailCats in 2018 season, posting a solid .380 on base percentage.
