WELCOME TO KINGSWAY COLLEGE SCHOOL The KCS Family Handbook is intended to make it easy for you to find the information you need quickly. Whether you are new to KCS or have been with us for many years, please take the time to review this handbook prior to the start of the school year. Please also take the time to review the key areas that span the relationship between your child's school and life at home, such as expectations for living the school rules, behaviour, and the completion of homework. Regardless of a student's current grade level, we expect that this coming year will be rewarding and engaging. The dynamic partnership between home and school is one of the reasons that KCS graduates are known for their ability to lead and succeed in all areas as they continue to be highly sought after by high schools across the GTA. Our community can once again ensure that KCS is a supportive and challenging learning environment in which each child learns to strive for excellence and live the three school rules: 1. RESPECT 2. MANNERS 3. TRY YOUR BEST A GUIDE TO UNDERSTANDING THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE AT KCS By following the guidelines and procedures set out in this handbook, your child's day-to-day experience at KCS will be enjoyable. That being said, when the inevitable "bump in the road" occurs, please do not hesitate to contact the appropriate person to assist in smoothing the way. The “Guide to Understanding the Organizational Structure” will assist you in finding the correct person with whom to speak. KCS is committed to effective communication with all of our families, and we appreciate hearing from you and value your input and feedback. In order to make your communication with us as efficient and effective as possible, please refer to the following list of people. An explanation of their roles in the organization indicates who will help you with a variety of specific questions or concerns. 3 Kingsway College School Family Handbook 2016-2017 Head of School Derek Logan Ext. 216 The Head of School is responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the school. The Head is the person to call if you have a concern or question that deals with the overall operation of the school or a very serious student, faculty, staff or family situation. The Head works closely with the KCS Board of Governors and its committees. Assistant Head, Academics Andrea Fanjoy Ext. 235 The Assistant Head, Academics is the second in command at KCS. The Assistant Head, Academics' key role is to be responsive to teachers and parents in regard to meeting student needs in the area of academics beyond the scope of the regular day-to-day classroom activities. The Assistant Head, Academics works with teachers to continually develop the KCS program of teaching and learning. She oversees KCS’ commitment to reflection, analysis, research, benchmarking and implementation of highly effective educational practices. The Assistant Head, Academics is the person to call if you have a question about the KCS curricular program that cannot be answered by the homeform or subject teacher. In addition, she can answer your questions about our Learning Strategies program, report cards or standardized tests. Director of Admissions and Operations
