How did Pelias become King? Threw the real king in prison where he died. Why might Pelias want Jason ‘out of the way’? To keep the throne as Jason is the rightful heir. What sort of king do you think Pelias is? Why? Bad- he threw Jason’s father in prison and would go to any lengths (murder) to keep the throne. Was a good ship built? Why do you think this? Yes- the text mentions the best timber, the finest linen. Why do you think Jason got the best crew that he could? The journey will be incredibly tough and he would ned the strongest to help him be successful. Answers • 1. Looming means threatening. • 2. It makes the reader feel the journey is dangerous and mysterious as things are dark and hidden. • 3. Aeetes is angry because he threatens Jason. He threatens to ‘cut off’ his hands and ‘rip out’ his tongue. • 4. Medea helps Jason because she heard the cruel way her father spoke and she felt sorry for Jason. She also likes Jason. • 5. Any reasonable answer with evidence. • 6. The dragon or hydra’s description makes the reader feel scared, the creature sounds dangerous.
