PRESS RELEASE Genesis House Gallery 26 October 2011 GENESIS PUBLICATIONS & Reading Rooms Fine Limited Editions Since 1974 genesis-publications.com The Faces unveil their first book with an exhibition of photos. A nd new paintings by Ronnie Wood Surrey, UK, 26 October 2011 – Last night at Genesis House Gallery & Reading Rooms, two heroes of contemporary rock music came together to announce the launch of their new book: FACES 1969-75 . The legendary guitarist of the Jeff Beck Group, Faces and the Rolling Stones - Ronnie Wood - joined fellow band mate, former drummer for the Small Faces, Faces, and The Who - Kenney Jones - for a private celebration and unveiling of the Faces’ first official book. This November 2011, a new 8-week exhibition commemorates the book’s launch: Nearly 100 pages are blown up and reproduced on Genesis’s gallery walls. Visitors are invited to stroll through the Faces’ glory years from the band’s First Step in 1969 to their eventual split in 1975. Also on display are 5 new paintings by Ronnie Wood, seen for the very first time. Entitled ‘The Famous Flames Suite’ – the paintings capture the Rolling Stones in performance. ‘Making the book we went through so many photos it brought back memories and, when we were finished, I looked through it, and it actually brought a tear to my eye. I thought it was just me but then I spoke to Woody and he said exactly the same thing had happened to him.’ Kenney Jones ‘We were bored so much hanging around in places where they didn’t even know how to make a salad… It’s amazing how such great things can come out of being bored.’ Ronnie Wood Among hundreds of guests, Ronnie and Kenney were also joined by new Faces frontman, Mick Hucknall and artist Sir Peter Blake .

  • Psaudio Copper
Issue 95 OCTOBER 7TH, 2019 Welcome to Copper #95! This is being written on October 4th---or 10/4, in US notation. That made me recall one of my former lives, many years and many pounds ago: I was a UPS driver. One thing I learned from the over-the- road drivers was that the popular version of CB-speak, "10-4, good buddy" was not generally used by drivers, as it meant something other than just, "hi, my friend". The proper and socially-acceptable term was "10-4, good neighbor." See? You never know what you'll learn here. In #95, Professor Larry Schenbeck takes a look at the mysteries of timbre---and no, that's not pronounced like a lumberjack's call; Dan Schwartz returns to a serious subject --unfortunately; Richard Murison goes on a sea voyage; Roy Hall pays a bittersweet visit to Cuba; Anne E. Johnson’s Off the Charts looks at the long and mostly-wonderful career of Leon Russell; J.I. Agnew explains how machine screws brought us sound recording; Bob Wood continues wit his True-Life Radio Tales; Woody Woodward continues his series on Jeff Beck; Anne’s Trading Eights brings us classic cuts from Miles Davis; Tom Gibbs is back to batting .800 in his record reviews; and I get to the bottom of things in The Audio Cynic, and examine direct some off-the-wall turntables in Vintage Whine. Copper #95 wraps up with Charles Rodrigues on extreme room treatment, and a lovely Parting Shot from my globe-trotting son, Will Leebens.

  • Music 262: Rock Music, History and Social Analysis, 70S Hard Rock
Music 262: Rock Music, History and Social Analysis, 70s Hard Rock [Music Playing on Piano] [Brian Ward]: Okay so coming out of the rhythm and blues and blues bands that came out of Britain, we have this kind of mainstream of rock n’ roll that happens in the 1970s. The label is a very loose label. It’s called hard rock nowadays. There are really two branches of hard rock. We still have the British hard rock coming out that’s based on these blues bands. We also have the American hard rock that takes on this southern rock sort of aesthetic. During the 70s rock continues to go in this mainstream direction and it’s mainly blues based. One of the first of these bands that we can really call hard rock was the band called Cream. They come from Britain. They are a power trio. We have Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker, and Jack Bruce. These guys kind of continue in the tradition of The Yardbirds. What they do is they have these epic solos on the guitar, very improvisational music. But along with that they have these more riff based songs and a heavier sound. Those along with Led Zeppelin and you can kind of say they started the whole heavy metal movement, but very early on. So the heavy metal aspects of these bands are these heavy guitar riffs and a lot of blues jamming going on. Clapton kind of broke the band up and he started a super group called Blind Faith. In Blind Faith we have a guy named Steve Winwood.
