The Cathedral Choir is on its half-term break so there will be no choral music today.

The Collect and Readings for today Almighty and everlasting God, you have given us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity and in the power of the divine majesty to worship the Unity: keep us steadfast in this faith, that we may evermore be defended from all adversities; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

First Reading A reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah. In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lofty; and the hem of his robe filled the temple. Seraphs were in attendance above him; each had six wings: with two they covered their faces, and with two they covered their feet, and with two they flew. And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory.’ The pivots on the thresholds shook at the voices of those who called, and the house filled with smoke. And I said: ‘Woe is me! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!’ Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: ‘Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out.’ Then I heard the voice of the LORD saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’ Isaiah 6.1-8

Psalm 29 - The Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace.

Ascribe to the Lord, you gods, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due to his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. R

The voice of the Lord is upon the waters; the God of glory thunders; the Lord is upon the mighty waters. The voice of the Lord is a powerful voice; the voice of the Lord is a voice of splendour. R

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedar trees; the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon; He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, and Mount Hermon like a young wild ox. R

The voice of the Lord splits the flames of fire; the voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness; the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh. The voice of the Lord makes the oak trees writhe and strips the forests bare. And in the temple of the Lord all are crying, ‘Glory!’ R

The Lord sits enthroned above the flood; the Lord sits enthroned as king for evermore. The Lord shall give strength to his people; the Lord shall give his people the blessing of peace. R

A reading from the letter of Paul to the Romans Brothers and sisters, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh – for if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’ it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ – if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. Romans 8.12-17

The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St John There was a Pharisee named Nicodemus, a leader of the Jews. He came to Jesus by night and said to him, ‘Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher who has come from God; for no one can do these signs that you do apart from the presence of God.’ Jesus answered him, ‘Very truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God without being born from above.’ Nicodemus said to him, ‘How can anyone be born after having grown old? Can one enter a second time into the mother’s womb and be born?’ Jesus answered, ‘Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be astonished that I said to you, “You must be born from above.” The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.’ Nicodemus said to him, ‘How can these things be?’ Jesus answered him, ‘Are you a teacher of Israel, and yet you do not understand these things? ‘Very truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know and testify to what we have seen; yet you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.’ John 3.1-17

Prayers of Intercession for this week Let us come to God, creator, redeemer, sustainer, offering our prayers for the Church and the world.

We give thanks for the glory of the created world, for the beauty it reveals, the plant and animal life it sustains, and pray that we may honour it as God’s own.

We give thanks for the Church, the Body of Christ, spread throughout the world, and pray that we may live out our faith and share the good news with joy and humility.

We pray that we may discern the Spirit of God each day, inspiring us, challenging us, motivating us to work for the good of all God’s children.

We pray for all in positions of power and responsibility in our world, for leaders of nations and communities, that God will bless and guide them in the way of compassion, justice, and peace.

We pray for all who are troubled, sick, or anxious. We pray for those who are overwhelmed by life, all who are in pain, and for those who are grieving.

Gracious God of Trinity, threaded through all creation, hear our prayers for ourselves and all your children, that we may know your presence daily, and your love for us always. We ask this in your holy name and for your glory’s sake.

Following on from David & Sue Smith’s sponsored pilgrimage to Penrhys, another member of the Cathedral community is taking up a challenge. Mr Alun Davies writes: Dear Friends - I am taking on the challenge to raise £1000 for a homeless charity in Wales which is run by my daughter Bonnie. Housing Justice Cymru mobilises Christian action on homelessness and housing need through love, justice, advocacy and nurture. They really do excellent work. I will make four pilgrimages to holy places this year starting with a mini pilgrimage from Llandaff cathedral to the holy shrine and statue of Mary at Penrhys in the Rhondda. My final pilgrimage will be to some Orthodox monasteries in Greece. Please donate to this good cause. The link to my JustGiving page is https://www.justgiving.com/fundra.../Alun-Davies-walks-Wales

Information relevant to the pandemic restrictions

We display the QR code that links with the NHS Tracing App. If you have the app on your mobile device you can scan the code through the app. This means that if people visit the building and later test positive for coronavirus, other app users who were there at the same time may be sent an alert, if local public health teams think this is necessary.

Sunday Worship guidelines – a reminder…. Here are some of the key things to note:

• There are currently two services: 9.00 am and 11.15 am • Both services are celebrations of the Holy Eucharist with the 9.00 am service catering particularly for children and families. • Social distancing guidelines must be maintained at all times – especially before and after the services. Given that the rows are 2 metres apart, they can act as a useful guide when standing in the Nave. • Hand sanitiser must be used on entry. • Face-coverings: Welsh Government regulations now make the wearing of face coverings compulsory in public buildings. This includes the Cathedral. • Everyone attending will be invited to complete a ‘track and trace’ card - please bring a pen! • Communion will be administered standing and in one kind only. • There will be no congregational singing. • Ritual and ceremony will be kept to a minimum.

• No service sheets will be used – the order of service will be available online to print in advance and bring with you or to follow on a phone or other mobile device. They are also available through QR codes displayed at each service. • The ‘2-metre distance’ rule means that the capacity of the Cathedral will be between 80 and 90 individuals although family groups sitting together will legitimately increase the number. • 5 cathedral chairs must be left clear between households.

Please note that there will be a legal maximum capacity number and it may be necessary to impose restrictions on entry to ensure that number is not exceeded.

The Welsh Government, the Church in Wales and the Diocese have all produced and issued protocols and detailed instructions to clergy and parishes. We are following them all.
