Then we would like to introduce you briefly Bonsaï Music. Bonsaï Music takes its first steps in 2004 in the music industry and has been quickly catalogued as a “Jazz record label”. However this image is a little simplistic because we believe that “Jazz” is more a musical philosophy than a specific musical genre. For thirteen years our work consisted in reconciling jazz and popular music and then promote and release Artists albums that can be enjoyed by jazz fans and lay people with this musical genre. The characteristics that most defines Bonsaï Music is our constant search of melody and/or great voices. Our catalog includes about fifty elegant albums recorded with splendid Artists such as Ben Sidran, Leo Sidran, Enrico Pieranunzi, André Ceccarelli, Chrystel Wautier, Matthieu Boré, Olivier Ker Ourio, Christophe Wallemme, Musica Nuda… In the great majority of cases those album have been awarded by the French Jazz Radio & Press (Selection FIP, Must TSF…) Most of our albums are illustrated by videos that you can see on our YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/BONSAIMUSIC Pierre Darmon 6 classical releases 8 VIVALDI - The Concertos For Recorder Stefan Temmingh - Capricornus Consort Basel Stefan Temmingh is a member of the new young generation of world-class recorder players. Born in Cape Town, he comes from a Dutch-South-African family of musicians and now lives in Munich. Being an early music specialist, he plays internationally with his baroque ensemble at renowned festivals and concert series, and can also be heard as a member of ensembles of all sizes in ACC24332 Europe, Asia and Africa. His fine playing is regularly compared to the style of 1 CD - 68’40 the legendary Frans Brüggen. PPD : 12,95€ On this collaboration with the Capricornus Consort Basel, he makes use of his wide array of technical and musical resources to render a reference version of Vivaldi’s Recorder Concertos. also available: ACC 24315 J. A. Hasse/J. S. Bach – BACHASSE Stefan Temmingh/Benno Schachtner/The Gentleman’s Band PURCELL - DOWLAND & HUME - Clear Or Cloudy Benno Schachtner - Axel Wolf - Jakob D.Rattinger - Andreas Küppers The countertenor Benno Schachtner is widely regarded as one of the most promising singers in his field. With a special focus on music of the German Baroque period, he is much in demand as a soloist with some of the best ensembles committed to historic performance practice. Conductors such as René Jacobs or Christoph Spering regularly enjoy working with him. ACC24333 For this English program of songs by Dowland, Purcell, Johnson and Blow, 1 CD - 59’04 Schachtner teams up with a small instrumental ensemble which provides an PPD : 12,95€ exquisite instrumental background to the rising star’s fine singing. also available: ACC 24315 J. Bach – BACHASSE Stefan Temmingh/Benno Schachtner/The Gentleman’s Band HANDEL- Lotario Festspiel Orchester Göttingen / Laurence Cummings - Sophie Rennert - Marie Lys - Ursula von den Steinen The king is dead! Berengario and Matilde are determined to seize power over Italy at all costs. To this end, they intend their son Idelberto to marry the newly widowed Adelaide. But the proud monarch has long since summoned Lotario, the noble German king, to her aid. The struggle for power begins... The Göttingen Handel Festival continues its close collaboration with the Accent ACC26408 label, which has already yielded great recordings of works like Siroé, 3 CD - 3H07 Faramondo, Joshua, Susanna or Agrippina. The addition to the series of this PPD : 29,00€ May 2017 recording of Lotario is without doubt a very welcome one for all Handel lovers. also available: ACC 26407 George Frideric Handel – WATER MUSIC HWV 348-350 Laurence Cummings/FestspielOrchester Göttingen 9 SCIARRINO - CARTER - NUNES - BOULEZ - Caprices Irvine Arditti Over and above his legendary career as leader of the Arditti Quartet, Irvine Arditti has worked on many solo projects and is still today one of the foremost interpreters of the music of our time. Over the past decade he has given the world premieres of a whole host of large-scale works written especially for him. His approach to the contemporary violin is fascinating. The works by Salvatore Sciarrino, Elliott Carter, AECD1755 Emmanuel Nunes and Pierre Boulez assembled in this album are among the most 1 CD - 56’05 widely known in the recent repertory for violin, both on account of the transcendental PPD : 12,95€ character of the pieces themselves and the impetus they have given the instrument’s technique, but also and above all because of the accomplishment manifest in the variety of their modes of expression. Irvine Arditti’s performance of them on this disc is masterly and already sets a benchmark. HANDEL - Messiah 1754 Piau - Watson - Pichanick - Charlesworth - Wolf - Le Concert Spirituel Hervé Niquet Why yet another Messiah? ‘I went through the different scores that exist and decided on the very interesting 1754 version, which features five soloists. You must remember that, when Handel arrived somewhere to perform his oratorio, he had soloists of varying standards available to him. So he quickly revised his score accordingly... All this is directly related to the reality of Handel’s ALPHA362 situation as a concert promoter. In those days, to earn a living from his music, 2 CD+BOOK - 116’22 a composer absolutely had to get his works performed and make a profit on the SPECIAL PRICE evening. The idea of not retouching a work to avoid “spoiling” or “distorting” it PPD : 15,00€ is a much more modern one. There must be around a dozen versions of Messiah (I won’t list them all). The 1754 version is rarely played because it calls for five soloists: two sopranos, alto, tenor and bass... I’ve opted here for an operatic interpretation, taking its cue from the drama inherent in this account of the life of Christ.’ (Hervé Niquet) ALSO AVAILABLE ALPHA222 ALPHA251 ALPHA967 PPD : 12,95€ PPD : 12,95€ PPD : 23,50€ 10 SCHUBERT - Arpeggione Sonata & Trio No.2 Marie-Elisabeth Hecker - Antje Weithaas - Martin Helmchen ALPHA284 1 CD - 73’24 PPD : 12,95 Following a first recording on Alpha devoted to Brahms which garnered much praise – ‘real duo playing’ said Gramophone, while Classica discerned ‘shared music making . a world full of nuances and subtlety, boundless sonic imagination (Marie-Elisabeth Hecker), playing of rare intelligence (Martin Helmchen)’ and awarded the disc a ‘Choc’ – the duo is reunited. In the latter, the duo is joined by an eminent musician with whom they enjoy playing, Antje Weithaas, ‘one of the great violinists of our time’ (Fonoforum) . ALSO AVAILABLE ALPHA223 1 CD - PPD : 12,95€ 11 VARIOUS COMPOSERS - Anime Amanti Roberta Mameli - Luca Pianca A voice, a lute, a sigh. Nothing could be simpler and more immemorial. This expression of sentiments and emotions, of the intermittencies of the heart and the shadows of the soul, is of course as old as the world. Yet it was truly a reconquest of the Renaissance. With Caccini, the ‘new music’ at once found a miraculous melodist. He composed a Euridice, performed in 1602, two years after Jacopo Peri’s setting and five years before Monteverdi’s Orfeo. The Renaissance did not know opera, but long ALPHA291 secreted that genre soon to be born. And it is brand-new opera that opens and closes 1 CD - 68’16 this recording, through the voice of its first visionary, Claudio Monteverdi. The Italian soprano Roberta Mameli is a great lover of this music, which she performs PPD : 12,95€ with an outstanding feeling for words and drama. Luca Pianca offers her his artistry and his great experience. Roberta Mameli is joining Alpha for several recordings, which will guide us towards other rarities and other periods.. DEBUSSY - RAVEL - CHAUSSON - String Quartets Quatuor Van Kuijk - Kate Lindsey - Alphonse Cemin The first disc of the quartet founded by Nicolas Van Kuijk, a programme of Mozart, was awarded a ‘Choc de Classica’ and ‘Diapason Découverte’. Now they return to their roots with key works from the French repertory: the single quartets of Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy and the Chanson perpétuelle of Ernest Chausson, in which they are accompanied by the mezzosoprano Kate ALPHA295 Lindsey, who recently joined Alpha, and the pianist Alphonse Cemin, also 1CD - 64’58 well-known on the label. PPD : 12,95€ The Quatuor Van Kuijk gives these works all their youthful impetuosity. The quartet is already a BBC New Generation Artist, having won First Prize and the Haydn and Beethoven Prizes at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, and First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Trondheim International String Quartet Competition. It has just joined the roster of ECHO Rising Star artists for the 2017-18 season.

  • Conductor, Composer and Violinist Jaakko Kuusisto Enjoys An
Conductor, composer and violinist Jaakko Kuusisto enjoys an extensive career that was launched by a series of successes in international violin competitions in the 1990s. Having recorded concertos by some of the most prominent Finnish contemporary composers, such as Rautavaara, Aho, Sallinen and Pulkkis, he is one of the most frequently recorded Finnish instrumentalists. When BIS Records launched a project of complete Sibelius recordings, Kuusisto had a major role in the violin works and string chamber music. Moreover, his discography contains several albums outside the classical genre. Kuusisto’s conducting repertoire is equally versatile and ranges from baroque to the latest new works, regardless of genre. He has worked with many leading orchestras, including Minnesota Orchestra; Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras; NDR Hannover, DeFilharmonie in Belgium; Chamber Orchestras of Tallinn and Lausanne; Helsinki, Turku and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestras; Oulu Symphony Orchestra as well as the Avanti! Chamber Orchestra. Kuusisto recently conducted his debut performances with the Krakow Sinfonietta and Ottawa’s National Arts Center Orchestra, as well as at the Finnish National Opera’s major production Indigo, an opera by heavy metal cello group Apocalyptica’s Eicca Toppinen and Perttu Kivilaakso. The score of the opera is also arranged and orchestrated by Kuusisto. Kuusisto performs regularly as soloist and chamber musician and has held the position of artistic director at several festivals. Currently he is the artistic director of the Oulu Music Festival with a commitment presently until 2017. Kuusisto also enjoys a longstanding relationship with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra: having served as concertmaster during 1999-2012, his collaboration with the orchestra now continues with frequent guest conducting and recordings, to name a few.

  • Villancico (Sp., Diminutive of Villano: ‘Peasant’)
Villancico (Sp., diminutive of villano: ‘peasant’). A term first applied in the late 15th century to a Spanish vernacular musical and poetic form consisting of several stanzas (coplas) framed by a refrain (estribillo) at the beginning and end, giving an overall ABA structure. The number of stanzas varied, as did the number of times the estribillo was repeated between stanzas in performance. Originally derived from a medieval dance lyric of the virelai or ballata type and associated with rustic or popular themes, the villancico was extensively cultivated in secular polyphonic music of the late 15th century and the 16th. In the second half of the 16th century devotional and religious themes gained in importance and the form became used increasingly for sacred compositions in the vernacular which were introduced into the liturgy on feast days. In the 17th century it became more important than the Latin motet, and although its artistic quality rapidly declined in the 18th and 19th centuries it remained popular in both Spain and Latin America. Since then ‘villancico’ has come to mean simply ‘Christmas carol’. 1. Origins to 1600. 2. After 1600. 3. Latin America. BIBLIOGRAPHY ISABEL POPE (1), PAUL R. LAIRD (2–3) Villancico 1. Origins to 1600. The term ‘villancico’ was first applied by Renaissance writers to a refrain taken from or modelled on a rustic or popular song, and then to a number of ‘closed’ poetic and musical forms based on such a refrain. The earliest evidence of the use of the term in connection with the poetic form is in the Chansonnier Espagnol d’Herberay des Essarts (c c 1463; ed.

  • Žagajo«! Ljubljana | 6
