E-mail address [email protected] Website: www.harton-tc.co.uk Harton Technology College is a mixed secondary school in South Shields, Tyne and Wear with pupils aged from 11-18. Rated as outstanding by OFSTED in 2006/2007 including for teaching and learning, the school was featured by OFSTED in its report “Twelve Outstanding Secondary Schools – Excelling Against the Odds. A recent thematic OFSTED inspection of ICT, rated ICT across the school as outstanding in every respect! A high performing specialist school, the newly built sixth form was opened in 2010 and the refurbished main building opened in October 2011. Harton Technology College has a strong and highly successful record of school to school support and extensive experience of professional development; investing heavily in staff delivering and receiving professional development to and from schools across the Borough and beyond. As Teaching School, it is responsible for leading and developing this exciting new Alliance to deliver high quality training and professional development for teachers and leaders at all stages in their career and is passionate about ensuring that the Alliance is at the forefront of developments of the BIG6, to drive school improvement and bring real benefits to pupils. Key developments of the Alliance to date and future plans include: Successful designation of sixteen highly skilled and experienced Specialist Leaders of Education (SLEs) with a wide range of specialist areas and plans for further recruitment in September 2012 Designation by Harton Technology College as a Training School – our fully trained facilitators have delivered core and enrichment training sessions to seventy SLEs from Teaching Schools across the regions; training which has been rated as outstanding both by delegates and National College representatives Accreditation of three Outstanding Facilitators to deliver the Improving Teacher Outstanding Teacher Programmes. Designation by Harton Technology College as the Northern Hub for the Future Leaders Modular Curriculum, which from September 2012 will see Harton Technology College and its strategic partners facilitating the delivery of levels 1 and 2 of this leadership training Initial acceptance by the Teaching Agency of our business case to become an accredited provider of Initial Teacher Training from September 2013. Working alongside strategic partners to enhance existing provision, the application includes to provide training within three core subjects initially with additional specialisms including behaviour management, closing the gap and SEN and will be delivered by Harton Technology College and its strategic partners according to areas of expertise and will see first recruitment in Spring of 2013. Development of a Harton Teaching School Alliance website which includes an on-line directory of school to school support which we hope to extend regionally. This can be viewed at www.harton-tc.co.uk and has been cited as best practice by National College officials. A successful bid to run a Research and Development project focusing on the comparison of interschool and cross school coaching as tools for successful joint practice development which leads to effective pedagogy. Working with strategic partners the project is to be launched in June 2012 and places use of technology at its core. Our Alliance comprises a range of high performing educational providers with vast experience across all educational phases: Boldon School – an 11-16 school where all students are encouraged to take advantage of opportunities provided, to attain their full potential in all areas of school life to ensure they are ready both to play a productive part in a democratic society and to move forward to the next stage of education, training or career with confidence and as young people of responsibility and judgment. Cleadon Village C. of E. Primary School - an outstanding large two form entry school with pupils aged four to eleven. Formed in January 2004 as the result of the amalgamation of Cleadon Village C. of E. Infants’ School and Cleadon Junior School, the leadership team have worked to empower the entire staff to continually improve so that each and every pupil can achieve their very best. Team work and the relentless drive to succeed have been at the heart of our school’s success. East Boldon Infant School - a smaller than average size school with 176 pupils currently on roll. The school has had three outstanding Ofsted inspections, the last gained in 2008, was awarded two achievement awards, achieved Beacon Status in 2000 and Healthy School Status and ICT Mark in 2010. Attainment at the end of Early Years Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 is consistently above local authority and National expectations due to high expectations in teaching and learning and a creative, inspiring and differentiated curriculum to meet the needs of all pupils. Epinay Business and Enterprise School – a school for pupils with moderate learning difficulties and associated challenging behaviour catering for pupils from 5 to 16 and offering NVQ Catering qualifications for post 16 learners. The school strives to ensure that its young people are safe, happy and well supported and always aims to promote increased access; inclusion and participation to assist with their ongoing development, building confidence and self esteem by ensuring learners make progress and experience a sense of achievement. Jarrow School - a vibrant and successful community of approximately 600 students, entirely rebuilt in recent years and enjoying superb state of the art facilities. These include a teaching observatory used on a daily basis as part of our relentless focus on improving teaching and learning and a highly regarded centre for children with autism. The school has highly effective pastoral and academic support structures in place and we believe our capacity to improve further is outstanding. Laygate Community School - an above average 3-11 primary school with 240 pupils currently on roll. Pupils represent a wide cross-section of the multi-cultural community and work extremely well together on a site which includes ten classrooms, a fully equipped nursery, a library, a fabulous sports hall, an adventure play area and large field. Emphasis is placed on the importance of delivering a fully rounded curriculum and full support every child in all subject areas. The school was ranked 8th highest in the country for KS2 SATs 2011! Mortimer Community College - a multi-cultural, state of the art, specialist college, for the Arts and Sport. Specialist status creates a powerful foundation, through which to deliver a Centre of Excellence for Sport and the Arts, and an outstanding community based learning facility that benefits all of stakeholders. Sport and Arts Specialist Status has been used to re-define a new 21st Century ethos and identity for the school and as such is the essential component within transformation plans for raising attainment and developing the life-long learning skills in students. Newcastle University - working across a stable partnership of 60 schools, Newcastle University offers Primary and Secondary PGCE courses (Maths, Science, MFL, RE, History, English with Drama and Geography). Top among five regional peers offering similar Secondary PGCE courses with a combined 'Very Good/Good Rating' of 92% and an overall satisfaction rating of 100%.; the university is delighted that NQTs reflect so positively on the quality of provision, which is based on a strong reputation for research informed, reflective practice and an outstanding partnership with local schools. Diversifying its offer in tune with the changing market place, the university is investing in the development of new accreditation options combined with a vastly enhanced sense of ‘school-led’ provision. Northumbria University – based on two campuses in central and east Newcastle, Northumbria University is recognised by OFSTED as outstanding in its provision of initial teacher education. Northumbria provides extensive Primary programmes at both undergraduate and post graduate level. Northumbria runs smaller, but highly specialised secondary post graduate training in Art and Design, CDT and PE. The university is at the forefront of designing and developing school centred ITE. Northumbria is also committed to supporting serving teachers through offering a range of non accredited CPD opportunities, as well as school focussed, modular courses with M level study. Northumbria is keen to work with schools supporting school’s own improvement agenda and national educational priorities. Park View School - a very successful 11-18 community school with a school role of 1447 pupils, providing a stimulating, challenging, yet professionally rewarding environment in which to teach, learn and train. With an excellent reputation for high expectations and achievement, its examination results are consistently among the best in Durham. Last year 88% of our GCSE students achieved 5+ A*-C grades, with 73.4% achieving this threshold with English and Maths, whilst the A-level average points score was 888, the highest of any maintained school in the North East. South Tyneside Council – represents the towns of South Shields, Hebburn and Jarrow and the villages of Boldon, Cleadon and Whitburn and has a long history of providing school improvement support, working in partnership
