Fisher Island Day School
School Uniforms: FIDS’s required, logoed school uniforms may be purchased at http://landsend.com or 1-800-963-4816, School ID 900123852. Please note the following important information:
1. All students must have at least one red logoed uniform top (or polo dress if applicable to grade level) to wear on field trips. This does not include the FIDS Sharks shirt. 2. We have included navy and white micro tights as an option for girls to wear under their uniforms. These tights may not be worn as stand-alone attire—only underneath jumpers, dresses, shorts, skorts, or skirts. Alternatively, girls may wear plain navy or white leggings—purchased from the retailer of your choice—to wear underneath their uniforms. Creative interpretations of leggings and tights are not permitted. 3. If children get chilly during the day, they should wear one of the Cooler Weather logoed uniform items available from Land’s End. Creative interpretations of outerwear are not permitted; e.g., college sweatshirt. 4. Cargo shorts, cargo pants, and sweat pants are not permitted. 5. Non-logoed uniform shorts and pants may be purchased from Land’s End or a retailer of your choice, as long as they conform to the color standards. 6. You are not required to purchase every item/color available for your child’s grade level. We have provided a variety of options to appeal to various personal preferences.
Face Coverings: Depending on local regulations, students may be required to wear face coverings at specified times during the school year or for designated periods during the school day—e.g., when social distancing is not possible while; riding the school bus. FIDS will comply with all government regulations concerning face coverings; however, we do not advocate that children wear them when outdoors, especially on warm days or when exercising. That said, we will respect the wishes of parents who want their children to wear face coverings, even when they are not required by law. To that end, we recommend that parents purchase washable neck gaiters or face masks for their children.
FIDS will provide each child with one washable neck gaiter upon enrollment. Additional neck gaiters will be available for purchase at FIDS; logoed masks are available through Lands’ End. In addition, FIDS will keep a supply of disposable face masks on hand for use during emergencies. We respect the right of parents to select face coverings that best meet the safety needs of their children. Non-FIDS-logoed face coverings should be free of other logos, emblems, and/or text and should coordinate with school uniform colors.
Shoes (All Students)
Every Day Wear: Sturdy, closed-toe lace-up or Velcro-closable sneakers are the best options for Every Day footwear. Consideration should be given to coordinate shoes with the color palette of student uniforms. Footwear that is distracting and/or potentially dangerous (e.g., neon-colored, illuminated, sandals, tap shoes, or wheelies) is not appropriate for school. Students may also wear hybrid, closed-toe rubber-soled shoes—such as Clark’s, Sketcher’s, Timberland’s, Top Siders, etc. These provide the proper coverage and support, but which also give a dressier appearance. Girls may also wear Mary Jane or Mary Jane-style shoes, without heels and which are closed-toe. Sandals, Crocs, clogs, etc. are not permitted. Galoshes may be worn on rainy days; however, boots are not permitted as footwear.
Formal Footwear: Closed-toe, black dress shoes are the standard for formal wear; black Penny Loafers or similar for boys; black Mary Janes or similar for girls are acceptable options. Middle school girls may also wear closed-toe black shoes— such as Mary Janes—with a modest (i.e., not more than 2 inch) heel. Boots are not permitted.
