The new outpost hosts a wide range of activities, from bowling and billiards to air hockey and retro arcade games, while also boasting scratch-made creations like the spicy Hawaiian pizza and Nashville hot chicken from its kitchen. As if that isn’t enough, there’s also a state-of-the-art sports bar— complete with a three 12-foot HD LED screens, not to mention 40 beers on tap—called the Draft Room, perfect for watching the big game in style and comfort. Family-friendly during the day, this enormous entertainment emporium is 21-plus after 10 p.m., transforming into the perfect adult playground in the heart of one the city’s hottest neighborhoods. WHAT BOSTON’S BUZZING ABOUT LAUGHING FOR A CAUSE Wildly successful actor/comedian and Massachusetts native 11.6.17 Denis Leary (pictured) has always honored his roots in the area, and nowhere is this more evident than with the annual Comics Come Home benefit. Now in its fourth year at TD Garden and its 23rd overall, the Leary-hosted comedy extravaganza—which raises money for the Cam Neely Foundation for Cancer Care—takes place November 18 and features such marquee talent as “The Tonight Show”’s Jimmy Fallon, former late-night TV host Craig Ferguson, national headliners Robert Kelly and Jim Gaffigan, local legend Lenny Clarke and roast-master extraordinaire Jeff Ross. With a laugh-a-minute lineup like that, Comics Come Home promises to be the comedy event of the fall. At the Emerson Paramount Center from November 8–19, the Lebanese import Gardens Speak (refer to listing, page 20, pictured) presents a ripped-from-the- headlines story of the lives of 10 ordinary citizens caught up in the still-ongoing Syrian conflict. A sell-out in New York, the show admits only 10 theatergoers per hour to experience this immersive production. An older, yet no less relevant, play takes the stage at the Emerson Cutler Majestic Theatre November 9–11 when Albert Camus’ The State of Siege (refer to listing, page 20) arrives from France with an allegorical tale depicting the rise of totalitarianism in a Spanish town. Will resistance triumph in the face of Death itself? THE TIDE IS IN The James Beard Award-winning team behind Portland, Maine’s Eventide Oyster Co. has brought its modern take on classic New England seafood to Boston with the recent opening of Eventide Fenway (1321 Boylston St., 617-545-1060, eventideoysterco.com). Even with its stripped-down menu, this counter-service offshoot of the more formal original to the north still dishes out favorites like its signature brown butter lobster roll (pictured), a wide array of Massachusetts and Maine oysters, and a selection of creative, seasonal dishes, from tuna crudo to fluke tartare. Eventide Fenway also offers a carefully curated selection of beer and wine, complementing its high-end seafood selections presented in a casual setting. WEST END FIESTA The folks behind popular North End restaurants North Square Oyster and Ward 8 have branched out into the neighborhood next door with a new concept—Bodega Canal (57 Canal St., 617-833- 4885, bodegacanal.com), a spacious Mexican eatery with a flair for nightlife. Located in the sports bar-dominated West End near TD Garden, this hot spot features a rustic-with-a-touch-of-luxury decor, as well as live DJs on Thursday through Saturday nights until 2 a.m. Diners aren’t left out, of course, as menu highlights include fresh-made guacamole, creative tacos (buttered lobster, anyone?), grilled corn (pictured) and plenty of margarita and sangria options. Whether in the area for a pre-game meal, post- concert drink or a night on the town, Bodega Canal looks to keep the fiesta going seven days a week. —Scott Roberto TOP PHOTO: JESSE HUNNIFORD; MIDDLE PHOTO: ZACK BOWEN/KNACK FACTORY BOSTONGUIDE.COM 7 PANORAMA’s GUIDE TO SEAFOOD DINING IN BOSTON With oyster season in full swing, now is the time to enjoy fresh mollusks and more at some of the Hub’s top seafood eateries BY SCOTT ROBERTO Legal Sea Foods With more than two dozen locations of this fresh-fish heavy- weight in the Boston area, it’s not hard to find great seafood in the Hub.
