Read Full Biography Overview Biography Discography Songs Credits Related Share on Artist Biography by Greg Prato Throughout his long and winding solo career, guitarist Robin Trower has had to endure countless comparisons to Jimi Hendrix due to his uncanny ability to channel Hendrix's bluesy/psychedelic, Fender Strat-fueled playing style. Born on March 9, 1945 in Catford, England, Trower spent the early '60s playing guitar in various London-based outfits, the most successful being the R&B group the Paramounts, who specialized mostly in covers, but managed to issue several singles between 1963 and 1965. It wasn't until 1967 that Trower received his big break, however, when he joined Procol Harum. The group had just scored a worldwide smash hit with "A Whiter Shade of Pale," but the only problem was that the band's leader, singer/pianist Gary Brooker, didn't have a proper band to back him. Brooker was previously a bandmate of Trower's in the Paramounts, and offered the guitar slot in his new fast-rising project to his old friend. As a result, Trower appeared on such Procol Harum classics as 1967's Procol Harum, 1968's Shine on Brightly, 1969's A Salty Dog, 1970's Home (which spawned the popular Trower tune "Whiskey Train"), and 1971's Broken Barricades. While Procol Harum helped launch Trower's career, the guitarist realized there was limited space for his guitar work and eventually left for a solo career. Enlisting singer/bassist James Dewar and drummer Reg Isidore (who was soon CLOSE replaced by Bill Lordan) as a backing band, Trower issued Play Robin Trower MUSIC his solo debut, Twice Removed from Yesterday, in 1973. c on Amazon Music A The album barely made a dent in the U.S. charts, but that would change soon enough with his next release, 1974's Bridge of Sighs. With rock fans still reeling from Hendrix's Active 1960s - 2010s death a few years earlier, the album sounded eerily similar to the late guitarist's work with the Jimi Hendrix Experience Born March 9, 1945 in London, (especially his 1968 release, Electric Ladyland), and as a result, the album skyrocketed into the U.S. England Top Ten, peaking at number seven. Genre Pop/Rock Although Bridge of Sighs was to be his most popular solo Styles Blues-Rock release, Trower's stock continued to rise throughout the mid- Hard Rock '70s, as he became an arena headliner on the strength of such hit albums as 1975's For Earth Below, 1976's Robin Trower Also Known As Robin Leonard Trower Live!, and Long Misty Days, plus 1977's In City Dreams. Member Of Liquorice John Death Further releases followed, yet by the dawn of the '80s, it Procol Harum became quite obvious that Trower's star was rapidly fading, The Paramounts as each album sold less than its predecessor. A brief union Submit Corrections with ex-Cream bassist/vocalist Jack Bruce spawned a pair of releases, 1981's B.L.T. and 1982's Truce, before Trower returned to his solo career. The '80s saw Trower make efforts to expand his audience See Top Trending Food & Fun with several releases that attempted to update his blues-rock style (such as 1987's slickly produced Passion), but none WashingtonWashington ċ returned the guitarist back to the top of the charts. During the early '90s, Trower returned to Procol Harum for a brief reunion (1991's Prodigal Stranger), before backing ex-Roxy Music singer Bryan Ferry on a few releases (1993's Taxi and 1994's Mamouna, the latter of which featured a Trower co- producer credit). Trower continued to issue solo albums at the dawn of the 21st century (2000's Go My Way), and a steady stream of live sets and compilations also appeared. Trower returned to work with Ferry once more on 2002's Frantic (again earning a production credit). Find Your Fun Reassembling most of his late-'80s band, Trower released Living Out of Time in 2004 and returned with Another Days Blues in late 2005. What Lies Beneath appeared in 2009 from V-12 Records. Over the next several years, Trower recorded steadily, issuing albums every few years: The Playful Heart appeared in 2010, followed by Roots and Branches in 2013, Something's About to Change in 2015, and Where You Are Going To in 2016. Trower's prolific run continued in 2017 with Time and Emotion powered by which debuted at number two on Billboard's blues chart, and in 2019 with Coming Closer to the Day.     The Twenty Greatest Music Concerts I've Ever Seen

    THE TWENTY GREATEST MUSIC CONCERTS I'VE EVER SEEN Whew, I'm done. Let me remind everyone how this worked. I would go through my Ipod in that weird Ipod alphabetical order and when I would come upon an artist that I have seen live, I would replay that concert in my head. (BTW, since this segment started I no longer even have an ipod. All my music is on my laptop and phone now.) The number you see at the end of the concert description is the number of times I have seen that artist live. If it was multiple times, I would do my best to describe the one concert that I considered to be their best. If no number appears, it means I only saw that artist once. Mind you, I have seen many artists live that I do not have a song by on my Ipod. That artist is not represented here. So although the final number of concerts I have seen came to 828 concerts (wow, 828!), the number is actually higher. And there are "bar" bands and artists (like LeCompt and Sam Butera, for example) where I have seen them perform hundreds of sets, but I counted those as "one," although I have seen Lecompt in "concert" also. Any show you see with the four stars (****) means they came damn close to being one of the Top Twenty, but they fell just short. So here's the Twenty. Enjoy and thanks so much for all of your input. And don't sue me if I have a date wrong here and there.

Well, we’re all just making the most of the last few weeks at home before we embark on what is looking to be a very busy year…. but before I tell you about what’s coming up, I’d like to say a huge THANK YOU for your continued support and give a quick review of last year. 2007 In Review Since the release of ‘Upside Down’ in March, we’ve some US dates later in the year. Next month will see had some fantastic response with the album getting us touring up and down the UK visiting quite a few the best reviews of any I’ve done so far!     PROCOL HARUM 2014 BIOGRAPHY Procol Harum are still going strong. March 2014 sees a new double CD, Inside/Outside, celebrating over forty years of studio and live recordings. In addition the spring will see a new download-only release, Some Long Road, featuring tracks from the band’s 2012 US tour. Alongside this Procol continue to tour many parts of the world, and are considering options on three continents at the moment. You could not be blamed for thinking that, with the monumental success of Procol's first smash hit, the band just stopped there, like so many others. Even the recently-awarded accolade of ‘most- played single of the past seventy-five years’ has not quelled their need to go forward: hence 2014’s new live album. In the past couple of years they have released ten re-mastered CD albums, plus the 2CD anthology Secrets of the Hive (all generally available in Europe, and sourceable on import); their DVDs In Concert with the Danish National Concert Orchestra and Live at Union Chapel have been widely acclaimed. There’s also a special 4-disc CD/DVD box-set compendium – aptly entitled All this and More – featuring 68 of the band’s many unique compositions: this prompted Classic Rock magazine to observe, ‘it’s small wonder The Who’s Tommy and Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody can be traced to Procol’s influence’. It could be termed a plethora of Procol. The quality of writing and performance has remained Procol Harum’s gold standard through the gradually-mutating line-ups: each participating musician has kept the ideas flowing and prevented Procol from resting on their laurels.
