1 FRISCO HERITAGE TIMES Heritage Association of Frisco 8/1/2020 Edition 2, Volume 8 Researching, Preserving, and Sharing Frisco’s Rich History www.friscoheritage.org FRISCO’S 8TH DECADE 1970-1979 The 70s in Frisco The 1970s began in America where the 1960s left off—a nation at war abroad and civil unrest at home. Turmoil over the expanding Vietnam War escalated in May 1970 when 13 students protesting the war at Kent State University in Ohio were shot by members of the National Guard. Four of the students died and the tide of public opinion turned against the war. The break-out stars of the 60s, the British Fab Four— The Beatles—broke up in 1970. Vice President Spiro T. Agnew resigned on October 10, 1973 over allegations that he had accepted kickbacks and bribes as Governor of Maryland and in his position as vice president. At that time, the House Minority Leader, Gerald R. Ford, was nominated by President Richard M. Nixon to fill the role of Vice President. Ford was confirmed first by the Senate and then by the House becoming Vice President in December 1973. The Watergate Scandal in 1972 would ultimately cause President Nixon to resign from office effective at noon on August 9, 1974 rather than go through an impeachment. When Nixon resigned, Ford was sworn in as the 38th President of the United States at 12:05 p.m. becoming the only unelected president in US history. In 1976 America celebrated its Bicentennial with a birthday party from sea to shining sea. -

TNT Greenlights New Series DALLAS TNT has given the greenlight to DALLAS, an all-new series based upon one of the most popular television dramas of all time, about the bitter rivalries and family power struggles within a Texas oil and cattle-ranching dynasty. Famous for its ratings-grabbing cliffhangers, the original series was known for its wealth, seduction, scandal and intrigues. Set in the big state of Texas, TNT’s new DALLAS — from Warner Horizon Television — also lives life large and in the fast lane and brings a new generation of stars together with cast members from the original drama series. The new DALLAS stars Josh Henderson (90210), Jesse Metcalfe (John Tucker Must Die), Jordana Brewster (Fast & Furious), Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars) and Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives), and they will be joined by iconic stars Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Larry Hagman as J.R. Ewing. TNT has ordered 10 episodes of DALLAS, which is slated to premiere in summer 2012. TNT will give viewers their first look at DALLAS on Monday with a special sneak peek during the season premieres of the network’s blockbuster hits THE CLOSER, which starts at 9 p.m. (ET/PT), and RIZZOLI & ISLES, which airs at 10 p.m. (ET/PT). COUNCIL CHAMBER 100459 February 10, 2010 WHEREAS, the City recognizes the importance of its role in local economic development initiatives and programs; and WHEREAS, the City has established Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zone Number Five, (City Center TIE District or District) and established a Board of Directors for the District to promote development or redevelopment in the City Center area pursuant to Ordinance No. 22802, as amended, authorized by the City Council on June 26, 1996, as authorized by the Tax Increment Financing Act, Chapter 311 of the Texas Tax Code, as amended; and WHEREAS, on February 12, 1997, the City Council authorized the Project Plan and Reinvestment Zone Financing Plan for the City Center TIE District by Ordinance No. 23034, as amended; and WHEREAS, the Tax Increment Financing Act specifies that the governing body of a city shall submit an annual report on the financial status of the district to the chief executive officer of each taxing unit that levies taxes on real property in a reinvestment zone, and a copy of the report shall be forwarded to the Attorney General and the State Comptroller; and WHEREAS, on January 14, 2010, the City Center TIF District Board of Directors passed a motion accepting the FY 2009 Annual Report for Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zone Number Five and recommending approval of same by the City Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DALLAS: Section 1. That the FY 2008 Annual Report for Tax Increment Financing Reinvestment Zone Number Five, City of Dallas, Texas, as of September 30, 2009, a copy of which is attached hereto (Exhibit A), and is hereby accepted. -
