President Wally Williamson called the meeting to order at 10:01am. V.P - Stan Girnas not present Cheryl Main for Stan announced that the October DFWATGA monthly meeting would be at the Sheraton Hotel on Interstate 35E across from the Hilton Anatole Hotel – Dallas. Cheryl also stated that DFWATGA group overnight trip was not available but all was go for the DFWATGA Christmas Party. President Wally said looking at trip possibly to Glen Rose next summer. Membership Secretary – Cheryl Main Cheryl stated that with newest members DFWATGA had 82 members. Treasurer – Joan Manganello stated that current balance in DFWATGA account was $3,170.80. Certification Chair – Juanita Gonzalez Was not present. No report given. DFWATGA 1 of 2 Recording Secretary - Charles Jeffreys Presented highlights of September DFWATGA Educational Meeting and said minutes of meeting had been sent. Immediate Past President – Helen Fratena Was not present. New Business – None reported Old Business – None Reported DFWATGA October 18, 2010 Educational Meeting called to end at 10:30am. DFWATGA’s own Sally Peavy, Tourism Sales Manager, for SouthFork Ranch presented history to present of SouthFork Ranch and TV show Dallas and its impact on Dallas tourism and hospitality industry. Sally stated that she had worked for SouthFork Ranch for 13 years and many of SouthFork employees had great longevity with the organization. Welcomed everyone to Murphy, Texas and 340 acre SouthFork Ranch. She also stated that just seven miles away on Interstate 35 in Plano was the 279 room SouthFork Hotel. Hotel hosts a lot of family reunions, seniors, plus tour groups. Parent company and SouthFork owner Forever Resorts owns land on Lake Ray Roberts, houseboats on Lake Powell in Arizona and three dozen other various hospitality venues around the world now! Sally stated that owner of Forever Resorts supplies 90% of world’s Aloe Vera. Sally also told the group that a pilot for a new “Dallas show” was in the works and “Good Guys” may use SouthFork Ranch/Dallas in future TV show. Celebrate Freedom at SouthFork Ranch over 4th of July is the largest Christian festival in U.S. December 12 the Snowball Express will be coming to SouthFork also. Background and details of TV show Dallas was detailed in an extended hour long ranch tour by DFWATGA’s own Joan Manganello, via both walking and tractor pulled tram cars. Joan gives 30 minute tours in the morning each day and 45 minute tours of SouthFork in afternoons. TV show Dallas is currently shown in 96 countries. The “ranch” facilities now include much, much more than what was first present when Dallas TV show was filmed at SouthFork. Also available for various hospitality events include the “SouthFork house” including the famous swimming pool for family gatherings and site of a disagreement or two on the TV show. DFWATGA group got a chance to see parts of house that most tours would not see. Included in the tours; the gift shops with JR’s car, café, rodeo arena, buildings for a working ranch, remains of SouthFork oil derrick, plus a 65,000sq ft special events building that can accommodate up to 8,000 people, in what some would call the SF Barn (group activity facility). Perfect for your group’s next little backyard Bar-B-Que get-together. Joan stated that 350,000 people toured SouthFork last year. JR would be proud that so many dropped by to see his little spread!
