Despite the proximity of Sredna Gora Mountains to Sofia, the insect assemblages of this region are poorly studied. As a result of two studies carried out as a part of an Environmental Impact Assessment in the Natura 2000 Protected Areas: Sredna Gora and Popintsi, a rich diversity of insects was discovered, with 107 saproxylic and epigeobiont Coleoptera species and 355 Lepidoptera species recorded. This research was conducted during a short one-season field study in the surrounding areas of the town of Panagyurishte and Oborishte Village. Special attention was paid to protected species and their conservation status. Of the Coleoptera recorded, 22 species were of conservation significance. Forty-five Lepidoptera species of conservation importance were also recorded. KEY WORDS.WORDS. INTRODUCTION The fauna of noctuoid moths (the families Erebidae and Noctuidae) of Kazakhstan is still poorly studied. Only the fauna of West Kazakhstan has been studied satisfactorily (Gorbunov 2011). On the faunas of other parts of the country, only fragmentary data are published (Lederer, 1853; 1855; Aibasov & Zhdanko 1982; Hacker & Peks 1990; Lehmann et al. 1998; Benedek & Bálint 2009; 2013; Korb 2013). In contrast to the West Kazakhstan, the fauna of noctuid moths of East Kazakhstan was studied inadequately. -

Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

It is open with few trees, and the vegetation is dominated by dwarf-shrubs growing on nutrient-poor soils. Dry heaths with Heather Calluna vulgaris and wet heaths with Bell Heather Erica tetralix are common vegetation communities in the heathland, and they often form mosaics. The heathland landscape is highly threatened, with large substantial areal losses of 95% in Sweden since the 1800s. Heathland supports around 200 red-listed species, including plants, insects, birds and reptiles. -

More than 508 species of Macrolepidoptera (sensu SEITZ) could be recorded, among them Idaea sericeata (HÜBNER, 1813), Cinglis humifusaria EVERSMANN, 1837, Aplocera uniformata (URBAHN, 1971), Scotopteryx chenopodiata (LINNAEUS, 1758), Triphosa dubitata (LINANEUS, 1758), Abraxas grossulariata (LINNAEUS, 1758), Kemtrognophos ciscaucasica (RJABOV, 1964), Furcula danieli SCHINTLMEISTER, 1998, Eilema lurideola ([ZINCKEN], 1817), Zethes propinquus CHRISTOPH, 1885, Meganola togatulalis (HÜBNER, 1796), Meganola kolbi (DANIEL, 1935), Pseudluperina pozzii (CURÓ, 1883), Mythimna sicula scirpi (DUPONCHEL, 1836) and Noctua interposita (HÜBNER, 1790) new for the fauna of Iran. Folkestone and Hythe Birds Tetrad Guide: TR23 P (Capel-le-Ferne and Folkestone Warren East) The cliff-top provides an excellent vantage point for monitoring visual migration and has been well-watched by Dale Gibson, Ian Roberts and others since 1991. The first promontory to the east of the Cliff-top Café is easily accessible and affords fantastic views along the cliffs and over the Warren. The elevated postion can enable eye-level views of arriving raptors which often use air currents over the Warren to gain height before continuing inland. A Rough-legged Buzzard, three Black Kites, three Montagu’s Harriers and numerous Honey Buzzards, Red Kites, Marsh Harriers and Ospreys have been recorded. It is also perfect for watching arriving swifts and hirundines which may pause to feed over the Warren. Alpine Swift has occurred on three occasions and no less than nine Red- rumped Swallows have been logged here. Other oddities have included Purple Heron, Short-eared Owl, Little Ringed Plover, Ruff and Ring-necked Parakeet, whilst in June 1992 a Common Rosefinch was seen on the cliff edge. Below the Cliff-top Café there is a zigzag path leading down into the Warren. -

INTRODUCTION The Russian part of the West Siberian plain includes the main part of the Tyumenskaya oblast’ (without the mountain territories), the entire Kurganskaya 1 oblast', Omskaya oblast', Tomskaya oblast', Novosibirskaya oblast' and the main part of Altaiskii krai. The border between the Altai mountains and piedmont plain of the Altai, which is included in the West Siberian plain, is assumed to be the 500 m above sea level, thus, Krasnoshchekovo, Gornyak and Zmeinogorsk are located on the West Siberian plain. -
New Records of Rare Lepidoptera Species Collected in Lithuania in 1993–2008

E-mail: [email protected] Introduction The last check-list of Lithuanian Lepidoptera (Ivinskis, 2004) revealed that Lepidoptera of Lithuania is not sufficiently studied. The rarity categories presented in the catalogue as „very rare“ or „rare“ are very subjective. Therefore a list of Macrolepidoptera species for which additional data on their distribution in Lithuania are gathered was compiled (Ba čianskas et al., 2008). The aim of this article is to present new data on Lepidoptera species collected in six administrative districts of Lithuania. Material and Methods The material was collected in different administrative districts of Lithuania. The majority of the material was collected with Jalas-model automatic light trap (Söderman, 1994). Moths were attracted using 160–400 W mixed light lamp bulbs. The identification of Lepidoptera species was checked using identification guides (Koch, 1972, 1976; Kazlauskas, 1984, 2008; Palm, 1989; Nowacki, 1998; Razowski, 2001; Ivinskis & Augustauskas, 2004). The nomenclature follows Fauna Europaea Database (Fauna Europaea Web Service, 2007). The material is deposited in the personal collection of the author. Some specimens are preserved in the collection of the Museum of Zoology of Vilnius University, Lithuania. TROFIMOVA Abstract Noctuoidea fauna of the Western Kazakhstan was examined by authors from 2003 to 2012. As a result of this study the annotated list includes 200 species. The species Rhabinopteryx turanica (ERSCHOFF, 1874), Heptapotamia eustratii ALPHÉRAKY, 1882, Eugnorisma tamerlana (HAMPSON, 1903) and Margelana versicolor (STAUDINGER, 1888) are noted here as new for Europe. Guselderia lutea HACKER, KUHNA & GROSS, 1986 (nov. syn.) is established as a junior synonym of Heptapotamia eustratii ALPHÉRAKY, 1882. 573 species of Noctuoidea known at present from the Western Kazakhstan are discussed. Als Ergebnis wird hier eine Liste mit 200 Arten vorgestellt. The study yielded 273 species, i.e. 55 % of the Polish Noctuoidea. Its results clearly indicate that the study area is of crucial importance to the conservation of noctuid biodiversity, not only in Poland, but also in Europe.
