No Prophet will ever be born after him. He came to teach us about how special everybody is. He taught that all people are children of Adam and Hawwa. He taught us how to be totally clean, how to be kind to animals, how to forgive others and how to be good. He was the greatest teacher that ever came from Allah. But the people would say: “We cannot follow him. He tells us that all children are special. He also tells us that we should listen to the children and we should do salaams to our children. How can that be when we know that rich children are better than poor children and that boy children are better than girl children!” Then they would laugh at the Prophet while holding their big bellies. They would go around saying: “How can we do salaams to our children. Children are born like animals. You have to beat them to make them good. This Muhammad is indeed saying some strange things to us by telling us to so salaams to our children!” Then the people would call their children and tell them: “Throw rubbish and stones at Muhammad. Show him that you children listen to us and not to him.” So the children would run in to the streets and start throwing rubbish and stones at the Prophet Muhammad. The Prophet said: “This are the worst days I have ever seen!” He was so saddened by what the children used to do that his eyes were full of tears. QUESTIONS FOR THE CLASS Do you think the children should have listened to their parents when they were taught to stone the Prophet? Do you think that we should listen to anybody if they teach us to do bad things? Do you think that anybody should listen to us if we teach them to do bad things? What kind of bad things do people teach each other? The days the children threw stones at the Prophet Muhammad were the saddest days. The children had become like wild animals because they did not think that what they were doing was bad. They just got carried away! They got carried away because they did not stop to think what was right or what was wrong. They just did anything that excited them. They would have even stoned each other if they got carried away with excitment. MASUMEEN 4 But the Prophet Muhammad did not give up. He still went to tell the people that they should not teach bad things to children. He told them: “If you love your children then teach them good things for good things make good habits.” But the people just laughed. Then one day the Prophet Muhammad invited the elders to his home for dinner. The people knew that they would get a tasty dinner so many of them came. They put out their hungry big bellies and started to eat. They ate the whole evening and finally they began belching. When they had finished the Prophet Muhammad said: “Now listen to what I have to say. I have brought for you an important message from Allah. If you believe in me than you will happy. I ask you to believe in me. And the one who believes in me will be chosen as my protector.” A small boy who was standing near the Prophet Muhammad stepped forward and said: “I believe in you.” So the Prophet put his hand on the boy‟s head and said: “Then I appoint you as my protector.” Seeing this the elders laughed and laughed. They said: “This is too much! First he tells that all children are born special. Then he tells us to do salaams to our children. And now he picks a boy to protect him. He is indeed mad!” But when the elders turned to see the child they saw that it was Imam Ali. They remembered that this was the child who was born in the Kaaab. They saw a light around him. They knew that this child could do anything he wanted. So they stopped laughing and ran off to their homes in a hurry. It is said that ever since that day the elders could not sleep properly because they knew that the Prophet Muhammad and Imam Ali would change all the bad things in to good things. They knew that the time had come to be good to children and not to teach them bad things. Should we listen to people who tell us to do bad things even if it is fun? MASUMEEN 5 1.
