WATER SUPPLY & SANITATION VISION Provision of adequate, safe drinking water and sanitation facilities to the entire rural and urban communities of Punjab through equitable, efficient and sustainable services. WATER & SANITATION POLICY Drinking Water Policy: Safe drinking water is accessible at premises, available when needed and free from contamination on sustainable basis to whole population of Punjab in addition to acquiring and adopting improved knowledge about safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in their daily life. Sanitation Policy: Policy envisions developing a safely managed sanitation environment for all citizens of the province, contributing towards high quality life in Punjab. OBJECTIVES . To achieve Sustainable Development Goals and its targets ( Goal 6.1 & 6.2 of SDGs) . Improving standards of public health through provision of improved services backed by legal, regulatory and binding framework. Laying down a roadmap for mobilization of resources to ensure provision of drinking water & sanitation to all by targeted timelines, assigning a priority to unserved and under-served areas . Focusing on capacity building of local governments and promoting Public- Private Partnerships to improve the operation and maintenance of water supply & sanitation schemes . To raise living standard of communities by providing quality drinking water and improved sanitation services . To reduce the spread of water borne diseases 123 ECONOMIC IMPACT OF WATER AND SANITATION PROJECTS The need for improved water and sanitation infrastructure is fundamental to the wellbeing of all citizens and increased coverage of these essential services will significantly contribute to socio-economic development. A study conducted by World Bank (2012) for Pakistan has shown that impact of poor sanitation and hygiene has cost the economy PKR 344 billion (US$ 6.0 billion) annually in 2006, or the equivalent to 3.9% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This translates into an economic cost at an average of PKR 2,140 (US$ 37.5) per capita annually. The impact of poor sanitation and hygiene is manifested in adverse health effects, cost associated with medical treatment, productivity loss due to absence from work due to bad health, cost associated with time spent by caretakers / family members, time spent to access services, adverse impacts on tourism, etc. This has an overall impact on the economy and socio-economic development. The indirect effect of malnutrition owing to contaminated water and poor sanitation facilities is further loss of infants and children lives. It results in severe stunting and underweight issues in children under five. Malnutrition leads to lower productivity at schools or at work due to impaired cognitive function and learning capacity. It is a proven fact that investing in water and sanitation can help in both improved health and confront economic challenges. STRATEGIC INTERVENTIONS . Special focus on completion of schemes. Allocation of 54% funds to on-going schemes for their timely completion to avoid cost overrun. Allocation of Rs. 8,000/- million for provision of clean drinking water by Punjab Abe Pak Authority. Allocation of Rs. 3,808/- million for execution of 318 on-going Water Supply schemes. Allocation of Rs. 8,368/- million for execution of 1344 on-going Sanitation schemes. Allocation of Rs. 917/- million for execution of 40 new Water Supply schemes. Allocation of Rs. 1,307/- million for execution of 62 new Sanitation schemes. 124 . Ensuring regional equity (Northern & Southern Punjab) in the developmental portfolio. ACHIEVEMENTS OF FINANCIAL YEAR 2018-19 Initially an allocation of Rs. 20.50 billion was made to Water Supply & Sanitation for the FY 2018-2019. This allocation was revised to Rs. 12.720 billion due to diversion of funds of new programs to other sectors. 1742 schemes were included in FY ADP 2018-2019 that comprised 1725 on- going and 17 new schemes. During the year, 57 supplementary grant schemes were added in Sectoral ADP. Out of these, 120 schemes will be completed by the end of June 2019 with an estimated cost of Rs. 3.7 billion. NEW INITIATIVES AND TARGETS OF FINANCIAL YEAR 2019-20 • 1,765 Water Supply & Sanitation schemes have been included in ADP 2019-20 out of which 817 schemes (including 248 Water Supply Schemes & 569 Sanitation Schemes) are targeted to be completed by the end of FY 2019-20 with an allocation of Rs. 15,161/- million. • Provision of clean drinking water by Punjab Abe Pak Authority with an allocation of Rs. 8,000/- million. • Mega Water Supply Scheme for City Ahmedpur East with an estimated cost of Rs. 1050 million. • Rehabilitation / Improvement of Sewerage System, District Jhang (Phase-I) with an estimated cost of Rs. 1032 million. • Beautification of Taunsa Sharif including Provision of Street Lights, Tuff Tiles, Sewerage and Water Supply, Tehsil Taunsa, District DG Khan with an estimated cost of Rs. 648.200 million. • Urban Sewerage Scheme in Toba Tek Singh City with an estimated cost of Rs. 625 million. • Construction of PCC Slab, Sewerage / Drainage & Water Supply Schemes, Rokhari, Ghundi, Dilley Wali and Mouch tehsil Isa Khel, District Mianwali with an estimated cost of Rs. 500 million. • Drainage & Soling in Sandu Kalan, Jagga Kalan and Bhune Kee Villages, District Kasur with an estimated cost of Rs. 500 million. 125 • Comprehensive Sewerage / Drainage scheme Fazilpur, Tehsil & District Rajanpur with an estimated cost of Rs. 405 million. • Provision of Sewerage System at for Dijkot District Faisalabad with an estimated cost of Rs. 400 million. • Solarization of Water Supply Schemes in Punjab with an estimated cost of Rs. 200 million. • Provision of Drinking Water to un-served, underserved, rural and peri-urban areas of Punjab with an allocation of Rs. 200/- million. • Provision of Sanitation Services to un-served, underserved, rural and peri-urban areas of Punjab with an allocation of Rs. 200/- million. • Promoting the use of safe, hygienic latrines for men, women and children under PATS Programme. To achieve the targets, funds Rs. 22.4/- billion have been allocated in ADP 2019-20. Out of which Rs. 12.175 /- billion are allocated to on-going schemes, which is 54% of total size of normal program. Rs. 10.225/- billion is allocated for new program which constitute 46% of total size. For provision of Water Supply and Sanitation facility, Punjab Government not only sustains its commitment but substantial resources have also been deployed during the last 05 years to WATSAN sector as show n in appended graphical representation. Trend of allocation in WATSAN sector from 2015-16 to 2019-20 can be seen in the following bar. ' ABSTRACT India owes to Lala Har Dayal a great debt of gratitude. What he did intotality to his mother country is yet to be acknowledged properly. The paradox ridden Har Dayal - a moody idealist, intellectual, who felt an almost mystical empathy with the masses in India and America. He kept the National Independence flame burning not only in India but outside too. In 1905 he went to England for Academic pursuits. But after few years he had leave England for his revolutionary activities. He stayed in America and other European countries for 25 years and finally returned to England where he wrote three books. Har Dayal's stature was so great that its very difficult to put him under one mould. He was visionary who all through his life devoted to Boddhi sattava doctrine, rational interpretation of religions and sharing his erudite knowledge for the development of self culture. The proposed thesis seeks to examine the purpose of his returning to intellectual pursuits in England. Simultaneously the thesis also analyses the contemporary relevance of his works which had a common thread of humanism, rationalism and scientific temper. Relevance for his ideas is still alive as it was 50 years ago. He was true a patriotic who dreamed independence for his country. He was pioneer for developing science in laymen and scientific temper among youths.

Abstract The The present study was conducted in the Sargodha district, Punjab, to underline indigenous knowledge of wild edible fruits as for therapeutic use by the local inhabitants. Folklore traditions with respect to curative flora were gathered through meetings and surveys from key informants including local residents, shepherds, herders, ranchers, traditional healers and herbalists. Rural vicinities were engaged to investigate reliable clients of wild edible fruits. Such studies not just assume a significant role in saving the native medica-ethnobotanical information yet in addition help to update the social status and economic values of the indigenous communities that consequently preserve the global heritage. 27 fruit species belonging to 15 families were recorded in the territory. All the plants were extremely compelling against various diseases and native to the area. The data about their botanical names, local names, families, part used, method of use and used for, all were recorded. The fruits and other plant samples of the investigated plants were collected, identified, preserved and deposited in the Herbarium of University of Sargodha (SARGU) for future references.
