www.ategrus.org 'The History of Private Sector Waste Disposal in the United Kingdom from the late 1970's to the mid 1990's' By Tim Byrne MCIWM Chartered Waste Manager. ISWA International Waste Manager Associate Member of ATEGRUS Commercial and Industrial Waste Collection and Mobile Compaction Vehicles The development of mobile compaction vehicles for the collection of commercial and industrial waste goes back to the 1970’s. In this period, the economy was buoyant and large quantities of waste needed collecting from industry and commerce. In this era, many smaller waste management companies existed and over the coming decades, they were aquired, by the national waste management Plc’s. In this era there were two national waste management companies in existence; Biffa, and Redland Purle. There were other regional waste management businesses such as Cleansing Service Group, Grundon, Hales Containers and Haul Waste as well www.ategrus.org as smaller waste management businesses such as Cartaways, Clugston Reclamation and Waste Plan in the West Midlands; Mix Concrete and Waste Disposal, had depots in Great Billing, Northampton its Head Office as well as in Coventry, Swindon and Bristol in the South East and the South West; Sam Hemmings with depots in Bristol, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire in the South, and Haul Waste which had depots across the South West e.g. Taunton, Bristol, Plymouth and Liskeard. Biffa and Commercial Waste Collection using Paladin and wheeled containers Biffa started using their first Paladin collection vehicles in the late 1970s when they purchased some Norba Hippo intermittent rear loaders with pencil bin hoist from Norba Ltd mounted onto Seddon Atkinson S34 4x2 chassis. -

CNH Industrial, Following the Merger of Fiat Industrial and CNH Global N.V
Iveco History Founded in 1899 in Turin, Italy, by a group of engineers and investors including Giovanni Agnelli, the first vehicle built by Fiat (Fabbrica Italiana di Automobili Torino) was a car. The firm soon branched out, though, into trucks and buses. In 1903, Fiat produced its first commercial vehicle, and in 1929 a specialist industrial vehicle division, Fiat Veicoli Industriali, was created. In 1933, Fiat acquired OM, a truck, car and farm machinery maker. The company continued developing its passenger and goods vehicle businesses, and in 1966 made a further purchase, that of UNIC, a French manufacturer of trucks. Three years later the automobile, truck, bus and defence vehicle maker Lancia was acquired by Fiat. In 1974, Fiat became the majority shareholder of Magirus Deutz, a German bus, truck and fire equipment manufacturer. The following year marked the birth of Iveco, when Fiat Veicoli Industriali brought together its own and acquired brands under a single entity, taking its name from the initials of the International Vehicles Corporation it created. In 1978, the Iveco Daily, the first light goods vehicle to be produced under the Iveco name, was launched, while two years later the company unveiled the first turbo diesel engine for heavy goods vehicles. In 1986, Iveco acquired the Italian company Astra di Piacenza, a specialist in trucks for heavy quarrying and mining operations. In the same year, it entered into a joint venture with Ford’s truck operations, creating Iveco Ford Truck, a business of which it ultimately took full control, whereupon the Ford name was removed. Trucks sold under the partnership included the TurboDaily tractor unit and the light-duty Cargo, which under full Iveco ownership was later developed into the EuroCargo. -

Welcome to the Credit Skills Academy There have been previous financial crises but this time it is the severity and global impacts that are very different from what we have seen before. Never have banks and lending bankers received greater criticism over the quality of their lending than at the present time. Media comment suggests that prudent lending principles have been disregarded in the quest in recent years for increased lending volumes and enhanced short term profitability. Analysts suggest that many of the prudential canons of lending have been overlooked and many lending bankers would benefit from a reconsideration and review of well tested and accredited lending principles. It is against this background that the Credit Skills Academy has been developed. The modules in this Academy have been prepared to allow you and your colleagues instant access via e-learning and may be accessed as individual topics in which you are interested. -
