The Trio has delighted audiences in coast-to-coast tours, performi ng in such major centers as New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, Detroit, Chicago, Toronto, and New Orleans and will soon be reaching yet a wider public with the release of their first recording, the Mendelssohn Trios on Vox Cum Laude. The Trio formed as a result of an ongoing relationship between the three artists developed through a series of performances on the YM-YWHA's acclaimed "Chamber Music at the Y" series, which is directed by Jaime Laredo. Their debut at the "Y" earned raves from the New York press, and their smashing European debut was highlighted by appearances at the Edinburgh, South Bank, Harrogate, Granada, and Highlands' festivals. They returned to Europe last June to perform the Beethoven "Triple" Concerto with the English Chamber Orchestra in London at the new Barbican Centre. In their own special series on Li ncol n Center's "Great Performers" series they offered the complete Beethoven Piano Trios, the first time these masterpieces were performed in a cycle at Lincoln Center. Last season culminated in a seven-concert series at the 92nd Street YM-YWHA with the Guarneri Quartet, performing all the works for strings and piano by Johannes Brahms in honor of the 150th anniversary of his birth. After appearances at the Maderia Festival and at New York's Mostly Mozart Festival (where they are annual favorites), the Trio's 1983-84 season in America will, typically, take them from several appearances in New York on the east coast to Oregon and California on the west coast, where they will perform a special three-concert series at Stanford University; from as far north as the Banff Centre in Canada to Florida in the South, where they will make several appearances at the Palm Beach Festival as solo ist with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and Pinchas Zukerman. A highlight of the year will be a three-concert series at Washington's Kennedy Center where they will perform the Brahms piano trios, piano quartets, the Horn Trio with Barry Tuckwell, and the Clarinet Trio with Harold Wright. *********** Welcome, Young People-- Parents are encouraged to bring their school-age children to our FRIENDS OF CHAMBER MUSIC concerts. Since winning first prize in the Leventritt International Piano Competition in 1969, he has been engaged and re-engaged by the world's greatest orchestras and has performed in the major music capitals. He is a frequent visitor to many of the international summer festivals, including the Salzburg, Edinburgh, Mostly Mozart, London's Proms, Ravinia, and South Bank, Recently he delighted New York audiences with two appearances at Carnegie Hall in his highly acclaimed recital debut and as guest soloist with the Cleveland Orchestra. JAMES LAREDO At eighteen, violinist Jaime Laredo won First Prize in the Queen Elizabeth of Belgium Competition. Since then, he has distinguished himself both here and abroad as a virtuoso and musician of the first rank, appearing regularly with the major interna tional orchestras and conductors. A principal figure at the Marlboro Music Festival for many years, Laredo founded and serves as Artistic Director of New York's acclaimed "Chamber Music at the Y" series. In the past few seasons, in addition to adding viola to his solo accomplishments, Laredo has been directing such orchestras as the Mostly Mozart Orchestra and the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, which he recently took on their second American Tour, appearing as both conductor and soloist to capacity audiences from east to west coasts. His numerous solo and chamber music records for RCA Red Seal and CBS Masterworks include the recently released complete Bach Sonatas with Glenn Gould and the Vivaldi "Four Seasons" with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra on the Pickwick label. SHARON ROB INSON Cellist Sharon Robinson has been acclaimed by critics and audiences alike as one of the most brilliantcellists before the public today. Robinson's accomplishments in the United States have received constant recognition, including the Pro Musicis Spon sorship Award, the Leventritt Foundation Award Sponsorship, and most recently the 1983-84 Gregor Piatigorsky Memorial Award of the John Hopkins University. As winner of the 1979 Avery Fisher Recital Award, she made an acclaimed solo appearance in 1981 at New York's Ali ce Tully Hall on the "Great Performers" series. • The Dallas Symphony Orchestra Presents: the Nature of Music May, 2021 Dear Fellow Educators
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra Presents: The Nature of Music May, 2021 Dear Fellow Educators, As spring arrives each year, I am reminded of the powerful relationship between nature and music. Both start as a single seed (or note!) and go on to blossom into something beautiful. Each plant, like each piece of music, is both a continuation of what came before and the start of something new. With Earth Day just a few weeks before our May concert, we wanted to use this Youth Concert as a way to explore and honor our planet through the lens of classical music. During our program, The Nature of Music, you and your students will hear music inspired by rivers, wildflowers, birds, and a busy bumblebee! Musicians have often used the earth’s natural beauty as inspiration for their music, and they try to use musical sounds to paint a picture for our ears, much like an artist would use different colors to paint a picture for our eyes. Each lesson will help your students explore and experience this connection. This concert will be offered virtually (available May 16 – June 4) but we are also accepting reservations for in-person viewing! Our two back-to-back concerts will be on Wednesday, May 5 at 10am and 11:30am. Please contact me or email my colleague in sales, Sabrina Siggers (contact information below), to reserve your classes reservation. You can see up-to-date Meyerson safety protocol below. We humans have a responsibility to respect and care for animals, plants, and the earth’s natural resources.

  • JAIME LAREDO, Violinist and Conductor
JAIME LAREDO, violinist and conductor "...music-making of unusually high quality - the sort of playing which comes only from understanding, love, painstaking care, and, quite simply, great ability." - The Guardian, London Performing for over six decades before audiences across the globe, Jaime Laredo has excelled in the multiple roles of soloist, conductor, recitalist, pedagogue, and chamber musician. Since his stunning orchestral debut at the age of eleven with the San Francisco Symphony, he has won the admiration and respect of audiences, critics and fellow musicians with his passionate and polished performances. That debut inspired one critic to write: 'In the 1920's it was Yehudi Menuhin; in the 1930's it was Isaac Stern; and last night it was Jaime Laredo.' His education and development were greatly influenced by his teachers Josef Gingold and Ivan Galamian, as well as by private coaching with eminent masters Pablo Casals and George Szell. At the age of seventeen, Jaime Laredo won the prestigious Queen Elisabeth of Belgium Competition, launching his rise to international prominence. With 2009 marking the 50th anniversary of his prize, he was honored to sit on the Jury for the final round of the Competition. In the 2018-19 Season, Mr. Laredo tours the United States as conductor, soloist and as a member of the award-winning Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio, which recently celebrated its 40th Anniversary. This season on violin, he premieres Pas de Deux. BELLA HRISTOVA, violinist “Her performance established her as a player of impressive power and natural command, tenderness and sweet-toned appeal. Hristova’s fervent virtuosity brought the audience to its feet.”— THE WASHINGTON POST “Hristova gave the Foss a captivating performance with the Milwaukee Symphony, bringing a pure, ringing sound and style to melodic passages and handling fast, technical sections with grace and ease.” — JOURNAL SENTINEL/USA TODAY NETWORK “Hristova played the work with passion from the very first note. She has an innate musicality that makes musical sense of each phrase she plays. Every sound she draws from her 1655 Amati is superb.” — THE STRAD “Ms. Hristova played with expressive nuance, flair, virtuosity and a rich tone.” — THE NEW YORK TIMES “Weaving through the twists of Prokofiev’s opening theme, never compromising the requested dreamy tone, Hristova would also prove she could strum her instrument with the fury of a folk-fiddler and deliver immaculate double-stopped counterpoint.” — NEW ZEALAND HERALD “The young violinist Bella Hristova played Astor Piazzolla’s Four Season of Buenos Aires. With a sure technique that easily surmounted the work’s virtuoso requirements, Hristova performed the tango master’s dusky, sensuous melodies with just the right amount of schmaltz and with an abandon that was a welcome contrast to the painfully correct playing offered by some soloists .” — SOUTH FLORIDA SUN-SENTINEL “Bella Hristova succeeded in crafting emotions out of the music with absolute control of texture and
