U.S. AIDS STRATEGY

On Tuesday, July 12th, President Obama released a report outlining the

United States’ first national HIV/AIDS strategy. While the strategy does

not call for additional federal funds, it does highlight a plan to redistrib-

ute money to areas most affected by HIV/AIDS. The strategy holds many promising tactics to confront HIV/AIDS in the United States. Unfortunately, it has taken nearly 30 years for a national comprehensive HIV/AIDS plan to be developed. The Commission believes that people living with HIV/AIDS need to play a central role in implementing this national strategy.

munities.

On July 30, the Honorable David Paterson, Governor of New York signed into law new HIV testing legislation, which will increase our ability to test more people in hopes of reducing new HIV infections and impacting the stigma associated with HIV/AIDS in New

York.

In Vienna, Austria, thousands of people gathered in July for the

18th International AIDS Confer-

ence, where those present agreed on the concept of linking preven-

tion and treatment as the best way

to combat the effects of HIV/ AIDS. Connecting people with HIV to treatment was another issue that was strongly recommended. The next International AIDS Conference takes place in the summer of 2012 in Washington,

DC, and the Latino Commission

will work with partners to make sure that people of color will be represented in meaningful ways.
Dear Friends of the Commission,

As our 2010 summer comes to

a close, we are excited to share with you important develop-

and territories. I was honored to

Peters VA Hosts Valentines for Veterans 2010 During the week of February 7-14, the James J. Peters VA Medical Center celebrated the 32nd Annual National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans. The National Salute is a week-long celebration of special thanks that occurs during the week marked by Valentines Day. During this time, VA Medical Centers across the country invite local celebrities, elected officials and school children to visit veterans and to bring them some Valentines Day cheer. This year, the Medical Center hosted Miss Universe 2009 Stefania Fernandez; Miss USA 2009 Kristen Dalton; and Miss Teen USA Stormi Henley; along with State Senator Jeff Klein and members of the SUNY Maritime Color Guard. "The National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans gives everyone a chance to let our veterans know just how very much they are appreciated," said Medical Center Director, MaryAnn Musumeci, "We’re excited to welcome Miss Fernandez, Miss Dalton, Miss Henley and Senator Klein. Their participation just heightens the celebration and brings a special note of cheer to our veterans.” Musumeci said she hopes visitors will also learn more about the important roles volunteers play at the medical center throughout the year and perhaps pursue volunteer opportunities. "Our medical center’s 464 volunteers are an important part of our health care team and donate over 85,000 hours of their precious time to our veterans. The National Salute program is a great way for people to learn more about helping the veterans we serve," Musumeci said.

    Capitulo I Definición

CAPITULO I DEFINICIÓN CAPITULO I DEFINICION 1.
