Mycorrhizal and Saprobic Macrofungi of Two Zinc Wastes in Southern Poland

Lubicz 46, 31-512 Cracow, Poland Received September 30, 2003; revision accepted March 10, 2004 Ectomycorrhizal and saprobic fungi of two industrial wastes in southern Poland (calamine spoil in Bolesław and zinc waste in Chrzanów) were studied. Pine (Pinus sylvestris) accompanied by birch (Betula pendula) were present in the investigated area. Fruitbodies of 68 species were recorded, but only 10 were common to both sites. Mycorrhizal species were the most common group on the zinc waste, whereas saprobic fungi prevailed on the calamine spoil. The differences in species composition between sites might be due to differences in plant cover, but also to the toxicity of the material at the sites. Among mycorrhizal species, members of Cortinariaceae and Tricholomataceae were most frequently recorded. Most ectomycorrhizal species had a broad host range, and only a few species known to be associated exclusively with pine or birch were found. Analysis of ectomycorrhizas by classical and molecular (PCR-RFLP) methods revealed that the fungi forming the most abundant fruitbodies were also present in the form of ectomycorrhizas. A few ascomycete and basidiomycete fungi not recorded as fruitbodies were present as pine symbionts. The paper provides information on the fi rst fi nding of Marasmius limosus Quél. and Pholiota conissans (Fr.) M. M. Moser in Bulgaria. Both fungi were found as saprotrophs on decaying leaves and stems of Typha angustifolia L. in the karstic swamp Dragomansko Blato. Morphological data obtained by light microscopy are provided for both species. The easy recording of both species in the swamp in the middle of October allows the suggestion for further autumn searching for macromycetes in wetlands. Key words: Dragomansko Blato, karstic swamp, monocot saprotrophs, Typha angusitifolia. Marasmius limosus Quél. and Pholiota conissans (Fr.) M. M. Moser (Syn. Pholiota graminis (Quél.) Singer) are among macromycetes which can grow on wetland monocots such as Carex, Cyperus, Deschampsia, Eleocharis, Juncus, Molinia, Phragmites, Scirpus and Typha (R 1981). Therefore these fungi are spread in different wetlands throughout the North Temperate Zone (R 1981; H & K 1992; B . 1995, 1999). Although the surface of Bulgarian non-lotic wetlands is more than 105 ha and many data on their biodiversity * corresponding author: B. This study summarizes research data of the last 50 years on basidiomes and ascomycetes from sudds in the Carpathian and Pannonian Regions in Europe. The 76 basidiomycetes taxa collected from Sphagnum sudds (282 collections) belong to 3 orders (Agaricales, Boletales and Russulales), 15 families, and 25 genera. The 77 collections from non-Sphagnum sudds contained 33 species representing 4 orders (the above mentioned and Cantharellales), 12 families and 18 genera. -

Om toch een volledig beeld te kunnen schetsen van de soortenrijkdom van De Kaaistoep zijn hier alle 8984 plant- en diersoorten opgenomen die gedurende de afgelopen 25 jaar tenminste éénmaal in De Kaaistoep zijn aangetroffen. Soortenlijst Van deze planten en dieren worden 149 soorten voor het eerst voor ons land opgegeven en zijn 156 soorten in eerdere publicaties als nieuw voor Nederland genoemd, mede op basis van Kaaistoepmateriaal. Tevens zijn 260 van de soorten op een Rode Lijst opgenomen en 182 soorten zijn te beschouwen als exoten. De lijst kent een eenvoudige opbouw in families en soorten per onderscheiden groep, beide alfabetisch.
