The Dayak ancestors who live amid lush forests with towering tree trees and inhabited by a variety of wild animals and wild animals, inspire for the Dayak's ancestors to make weapons that not only protect themselves from the ferocity of forest life but also have been able to sustain the existence of their survival. Such living conditions have motivated the Dayak ancestors to make weapons called "blowgun" Blowgun as weapons equipped with blowgun called damak. Damak made of bamboo, stick and the like are tapered and given sharp-sharp so that after the target is left in the victim's body. In its use damak smeared with poison. Poison blowgun smeared on the damak where the ingredients used are very dangerous, a little scratched it can cause death. Poison blowgun can be made from a combination of various sap of a particular tree and can also be made from animals. Along with the development of blowgun, era began to be abandoned by Dayak young people. To avoid the typical weapons of this high-end Dayak blowgun from extinction, need to be socialized especially to the young generation and to Dayak young generation especially in order, not to extinction. -

Genetic Inheritance in the Malayic languages of Kotawaringin Barat, Indonesia by Chad K. White (Under the direction of Jared Klein) Abstract This thesis will attempt to classify the languages of Kotawaringin Barat, Kalimantan Tengah, Indonesia using comparative analysis and dialectology. Comparison will be made with Proto-Malayic and other comparative dialectal studies to determine if the KoBar lan- guages are autochthonous to Borneo or part of a back-migration of Malay languages from outside Borneo. If they are autochthonous, then I will seek to place them in the network of Malayic dialects based on phonological changes. Finally, the internal relationships of the languages will be determined based on sound changes. It is my hope that this paper will move forward the study of Malayic languages on Borneo. Military Technology in the 12Th Century
Zurich Model United Nations MILITARY TECHNOLOGY IN THE 12TH CENTURY The following list is a compilation of various sources and is meant as a refer- ence guide. It does not need to be read entirely before the conference. The breakdown of centralized states after the fall of the Roman empire led a number of groups in Europe turning to large-scale pillaging as their primary source of income. Most notably the Vikings and Mongols. As these groups were usually small and needed to move fast, building fortifications was the most efficient way to provide refuge and protection. Leading to virtually all large cities having city walls. The fortifications evolved over the course of the middle ages and with it, the battle techniques and technology used to defend or siege heavy forts and castles. Designers of castles focused a lot on defending entrances and protecting gates with drawbridges, portcullises and barbicans as these were the usual week spots. A detailed ref- erence guide of various technologies and strategies is compiled on the following pages. Dur- ing the third crusade and before the invention of gunpowder the advantages and the balance of power and logistics usually favoured the defender. Another major advancement and change since the Roman empire was the invention of the stirrup around 600 A.D. (although wide use is only mentioned around 900 A.D.). The stirrup enabled armoured knights to ride war horses, creating a nearly unstoppable heavy cavalry for peasant draftees and lightly armoured foot soldiers. With the increased usage of heavy cav- alry, pike infantry became essential to the medieval army. -

Silat Martial Ritual Initiation in Brunei Darussalam
Southeast Asia: A Multidisciplinary Journal, Vol 14, 2014, pp 1–13 © FASS, UBD Silat martial ritual initiation in Brunei Darussalam Gabriel Facal Institut de recherches Asiatiques (Aix-Marseille Université) Abstract Almost no research has been done on the silat martial ritual initiations developed in Brunei even though silat continues to be a main cultural marker of the sultanate and it is recurrent in legendary narratives as well as in contemporary local film productions. For Bruneian people, the image of silat is also conveyed by the multitude of Malaysian and Indonesian movies they can watch. Therefore the upheavals that silat has endured since the inception of the sport’s federation in the 1980’s have challenged the possibility of local silat groups keeping alive their practice, structure and organization. These evolutions also reflect certain conflicts in the Bruneian cultural policy, as the government seeks to promote a traditional cultural heritage while at the same time transforming its content to match an alternative ideological discourse. Introduction Martial ritual initiations have spread widely across the so-called Malay world (for debate about this notion, see Barnard, 2004), and have been extensively documented. For example, Maryono (2002) describes pencak and silat in Indonesia, De Grave (2001) deals with pencak in Java, Facal (2012) focuses on penceu in Banten, Wilson (2002) analyzes penca in West Java, and Farrer (2012) considers silat in Malaysia. However, there has been less coverage of the situation in Brunei. This discrepancy can be explained by the secrecy surrounding the transmission and integration of the practice in a wide and complex set of transmission frames, based on an authority structure which refers to local cosmology and religious values. -

In this paper we pick a theme the cultural elements of the island of Borneo as a pioneer in the image of Indonesian culture at an international level through the media of handheld gaming. Introducing of Indonesian culture, represented by Borneo culture that we implementing through one of the characters in the Android handheld game that we have created. We hope the image of Indonesian culture can be lifted and known on international public, especially children and teenagers who love the game. Keywords: video games, culture. 1. Introduction Indonesia is a country that has the most diverse cultures, but rarely explored into modern forms of media such as video games. Video games can be mixed with elements of Indonesian culture, especially in the character. Borneo/Kalimantan island is the largest island in Indonesia and have the unique culture and closely related with magic. In our game Lume Wars, we adding Indonesian culture on one of character. In this character we are inspired by the figure of a bird commander who became a legend society in Borneo island. The main ethnic groups of Dayaks are the Bakumpai and Dayak Bukit of South Kalimantan, The Ngajus, Baritos, Benuaqs of East Kalimantan, the Kayan and Kenyah groups and their sub-tribes in Central Borneo and the Ibans, Embaloh (Maloh), Kayan, Kenyah, Penan, Kelabit, Lun Bawang and Taman populations in the Kapuas and Sarawak regions. -

BATTLE OF MACTAN Danilo Madrid Gerona, Ph.D. Foreword Especially written by Dr. Gerona for Sulu Garden’s BATTLE OF MACTAN PROJECT, this article describes this dramatic event from actual accounts of Ferdinand Magellan’s chronicler, Antonio Pigafetta, and other historians long after the conflict. Dr. Gerona is a faculty member in the Graduate School of Universidad de Isabel in Naga City and a research associate of the University of San Carlos Press in Cebu. He is the only non-Spanish member of Sevilla 2019- 2022, which coordinates the global celebration of the 5th Centenary of Magellan’s Circumnavigation of the World. In 2016, Dr. Gerona published his epic book, Ferdinand Magellan. The Armada de Maluco and the European Discovery of the Philippines, based on primary sources from years of research in Spain. The Diorama of the Battle of Mactan is a project to illustrate the real events of the battle between the forces of Magellan and Lapulapu on April 27, 1521. Both antagonists in this 16th century drama has been long misunderstood by our fellow countrymen because of long standing biases, sometimes disinterest in historical narratives and mostly from lack of true, historically accurate books on this subject. Why create a diorama? The battlefield in Mactan is a diverse battlefield with so many players. There were Magellan’s men, the Cebuano Rajahs Humabon and Sula, Rajah Lapulapu and his allies. The battlefield extended from the deep water edge of the almost 2 km coral reef fronting the Island of Mactan itself. There were over 2,500+ warriors of both sides, Magellan’s Conquistadores, three Spanish ships known as caravels, 30 balanghai ships, assorted smaller boats and the complicated terrain of Mactan.
