A todos los que brindaron su ayuda para la realización de este trabajo: Muchas gracias!! iv Resumen El langostino de río Macrobrachium americanum, ha despertado el interés, debido a sus características biológicas y a la necesidad de considerar especies alternativas para la acuicultura. Uno de los principales obstáculos que dificulta su tecnología de producción, es la falta de conocimiento y estudios en el cultivo larvario y juvenil en los aspectos nutricionales, pues aún no se conocen los requerimientos de proteína y energía. Así pues, la presente investigación busca generar conocimientos y resultados útiles sobre el uso de dietas formuladas para el langostino de rio M. americanum. Se realizaron tres experimentos. Las larvas y juveniles de M. americanum empleados fueron obtenidos en condiciones de laboratorio a partir del desove de hembras silvestres. El Experimento I, consistió en evaluar el efecto del valor nutricional de nauplios de Artemia enriquecida con microalgas sobre el crecimiento y supervivencia en larvas de langostino. Se emplearon tres dietas diferentes, consistentes en nauplio de Artemia (D1), metanauplios I Artemia enriquecida con Tetraselmis suecica (D2) y metanauplios I Artemia enriquecida con Chaetoceros calcitrans (D3). Las larvas de langostinos alimentadas con la dieta D3 alcanzaron la mayor supervivencia, crecimiento y tasa de crecimiento, siendo la más efectiva de las tres dietas en estas condiciones experimentales. En el Experimento II, se determinó el efecto de cuatro concentraciones de proteína cruda 30.7, 37.2, 41.8 y 46.8% en dieta, sobre la respuesta productiva, composición proximal y aminoacídica corporal de juveniles de M. americanum. Langostinos alimentados con 37.2% de proteína cruda alcanzaron un peso final de 0.58 g (factor de conversión alimenticia de 2.15), que fue significativamente mejor. La supervivencia fue del 100% en todos los tratamientos. El contenido de proteína en las dietas tuvo efecto significativo en la composición proximal y el perfil de aminoácidos del cuerpo entero. Se ajustó la tasa de crecimiento a la línea discontinua de dos pendientes y estos resultados demostraron que la dieta a base de proteínas al 37.2% es óptima para juvenil de M. americanum. En el Experimento III, se evaluó el efecto de niveles de proteína (35 y 40%) y lípidos (6, 10 y 14 %) en dieta con arreglo factorial (3×2) para seis relaciones proteína/energía: 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 y 22 mg PC kj-¹ g-¹, sobre variables productivas, nutricionales, histológicas y bioquímicas de juveniles de langostino de río. Los indicadores productivos y nutricionales fueron significativamente influenciados por la relación P/E, sin embargo no se encontró diferencia en la variable supervivencia. La actividad enzimática fue estadísticamente comparable entre diferentes relaciones P/E. La actividad proteasa total aumentó significativamente con el aumento de la proteína dietética. La histología del hepatopáncreas para una relación P/E 18:1, 19:1 y 22:1 fue normal, con los túbulos bien dispuestos. Diferentes tipos de células en estos grupos fueron identificados, uniformes en forma y tamaño. Las concentraciones de colesterol total y de glucosa en la hemolinfa se vieron afectadas significativamente por las diferentes relaciones de P/E y los niveles de lípidos. Estos resultados demuestran que la dieta que contiene un nivel de proteína 35% y lípidos de 10% con relación P/E de 18 mg PC kJ-1 g-¹ mostró tendencia a ser óptima para los juveniles.     Does Climate Change Bolster the Case for Fishery Reform in Asia? Christopher Costello∗ I examine the estimated economic, ecological, and food security effects of future fishery management reform in Asia. Without climate change, most Asian fisheries stand to gain substantially from reforms. Optimizing fishery management could increase catch by 24% and profit by 34% over business- as-usual management. These benefits arise from fishing some stocks more conservatively and others more aggressively. Although climate change is expected to reduce carrying capacity in 55% of Asian fisheries, I find that under climate change large benefits from fishery management reform are maintained, though these benefits are heterogeneous. The case for reform remains strong for both catch and profit, though these numbers are slightly lower than in the no-climate change case. These results suggest that, to maximize economic output and food security, Asian fisheries will benefit substantially from the transition to catch shares or other economically rational fishery management institutions, despite the looming effects of climate change. High governance, wealthy economies have largely adopted output controls or various forms of catch shares, which has helped fisheries in these economies overcome inefficiencies arising from overfishing (Worm et al. 2009) and capital stuffing (Homans and Wilen 1997), and allowed them to turn the corner toward sustainability (Costello, Gaines, and Lynham 2008) and profitability (Costello et al. 2016). But the world’s largest fishing region, Asia, has instead largely pursued open access and input controls, achieving less long-run fishery management success (World Bank 2017).

    Tristan da Cunha The Tristan da Cunha Archipelago is a group of volcanic islands in the South Atlantic (37o-41 o S; 9o-13o W), which includes the main island of Tristan da Cunha (96 km2), Gough Island (65 km2), Inaccessible Island (14 km2), Nightingale Island (3 km2) and two small islands close to Nightingale. The island group is situated around 1200 nautical miles south of St Helena and 1500 miles WSW of Cape Town, South Africa (Figure TdC-1). The island is part of the British Overseas Territory of Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, with the Governor based on St Helena. The Administrator is the Governor’s representative on Tristan da Cunha. Figure TdC-1. The South Atlantic Ocean showing the location of the Tristan da Cunha island group. The three northern islands (Tristan, Nightingale and Inaccessible) lie north of the Subtropical Convergence STC), a circumpolar oceanic front located at approximately 42˚S where the sea surface temperature (SST) drops sharply. Gough Island lies in the path of the STC, which moves north of the island during winter months. Average SST at Tristan da Cunha in the austral summer range from 15- 19˚C, and in winter it declines to 13-15˚C. At Gough Island SST is on average 3˚C cooler than at the Tristan group during all months. The tidal range is small, but trade winds and frequent storms means that the marine environment is high energy with frequent physical disturbance. The Tristan da Cunha 200 nautical mile Exclusive Fishing Zone (EFZ; Figure TdC-2) was established in 1983 and covers an area of 754,000 km2.

Because of their high value and esteemed culinary worth, much attention has been paid to lobsters in biological, fisheries, and systematic literature. They have a great demand in the domestic market as a delicacy and is a foreign exchange earner for the country. Taxonomic status Phylum: Arthropoda Subphylum: Crustacea Class: Malacostraca Subclass: Eumalacostraca Superorder: Eucarida Order: Decapoda Suborder: Macrura Reptantia The suborder Macrura Reptantia consists of three infraorders: Astacidea (Marine lobsters and freshwater crayfishes), Palinuridea (Spiny lobsters and slipper lobsters) and Thalassinidea (mud lobsters).
