HIS quartette is recognised by musical critics, the world over, as undoubtedly one of the, if not the very finest piece of vocal part composition ever written. One of the real gems from Opera, it is rendered by these world-famous singers in such a manner as to enthral one with its beauty. 12-inch Record, 9s. FRAULEIN FRIEDA HEMPEL. Rosine (" Barbier Sevilla") Rossini 043152 -arie von HIS lively air from Rossini's famous comic opera is one in which many celebrated singers of the past have been heard, including Patti, while in our own day the revival of this opera by Tetrazzini has added another famous name to the list. Fraulein Frieda Hempel has a phenomenally high voice, reaching with ease to the double F sharp, so that the choice of this florid air is not to be wondered at. The combination of sustained and executive passages in Rosina's air is a unique cue, and this gifted artist renders excellent account of both of them, giving the hazardous passages of the finale with complete success, and the true lightness and sparkle which are of the essence of the " Barber of Seville." In the legato passages, perhaps, the homely quality of the lieder singer is suggested, while the exceptionally high notes of the florid movements are displayed with a lavish hand, their brilliant harmonic quality contributing not a little to the success of this remarkable performance.

12-inch Record, 5s. 6d. De PACHMANN. Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 14 alcml",ssohn HIS Andante and Rondo Capriccioso is one of Mendelssohn's most admired and perfect compositions. The Rondo is an example of the fairy-like music of which its composer was so fond. The soft middle melody is also in a distinctly Mendelssohnian vein.Their exposition and development are followed by an elaborate and effective coda. Pachmann renders this with wonderful perfection of detail and extraordinary agility. He obtains also a rich musical tone from his instrument, while in the octave pas- sages of the conclusion, the pianist undoubtedly lets himself go. A masterly performance of Mendelssohn's rarely heard and favourite composition.

Meanwhile this tuneful little song is certainly one of the best of the bunch. It is begun by the versatile Harry Dearth in a mood of deepest devotion, and with a slow measured emotion which must perforce carry the listener with him. As it proceeds, the time gradually swells out, the softness of the opening contrasting finely with the richness of the climax of the lines- Sweetheart of mine, I find my answer Deep in your love-lit eyes." 12-inch Record, 5s. 6d. Miss MARGARET COOPER. 03218 "Peter " Scott-Gatty 'T"HIS'PISfull II record possesses the supreme advantage of reproducing beauty of Miss Margaret Cooper's voice. The story of "Peter," the youth with excellent morals but a most unprepossessing face, makes an extremely diverting song, while the unexpected dramatic touches, as in the lines- Peter, you and I must part, Don't despond and don't lose heart." add considerably to the humour of it. This is the finest record ever made of Miss Margaret Cooper's singing, and one that does full justice to her many rare and brilliant gifts. 12-inch Record, 5s. 6d. Miss JEAN AYLWIN. 03261 "He's awfu' guid tae me" 21IcDonald and Ij' illlams PmelodyIS talented comedienne gives here a song full of delightful and humour. Miss Jean Aylwin having made a name for herself on the Concert Platform and in musical comedy at the Gaiety, now wins the hearts of all by singing to us in our own home. Both her song and her original style of singing have all those indefinable qualities which have made Mr. Harry Lauder and his songs so universally popular.
