HUGH WOOLDRIDGE Director and Lighting Designer; Visiting Professor Hugh Wooldridge has produced, directed and devised theatre and television productions all over the world. He has taught and given master-classes in the UK, Europe, the US, South Africa and Australia. He trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) and made his West End debut as an actor in The Dame of Sark with Dame Celia Johnson. Subsequently he performed with the London Festival Ballet / English National Ballet in the world premiere production of Romeo and Juliet choreographed by Rudolph Nureyev. At the age of 22, he directed The World of Giselle for Dame Ninette de Valois and the Royal Ballet. Since this time, he has designed lighting for new choreography with dance companies around the world including The Royal Ballet, Dance Theatre London, Rambert Dance Company, the National Youth Ballet and the English National Ballet Company. He directed the world premieres of the Graham Collier / Malcolm Lowry Jazz Suite Under A Volcano and The Undisput’d Monarch of the English Stage with Gary Bond portraying David Garrick; the Charles Strouse opera, Nightingale with Sarah Brightman at the Buxton Opera Festival; Francis Wyndham’s Abel and Cain (Haymarket, Leicester) with Peter Eyre and Sean Baker. He directed and lit the original award-winning Jeeves Takes Charge at the Lyric Hammersmith; the first productions of the Andrew Lloyd Webber and T. S. Eliot Cats (Sydmonton Festival), and the Andrew Lloyd Webber / Don Black song-cycle Tell Me 0n a Sunday with Marti Webb at the Royalty (now Peacock) Theatre; also Lloyd Webber’s Variations at the Royal Festival Hall (later combined together to become Song and Dance) and Liz Robertson’s one-woman show Just Liz compiled by Alan Jay Lerner at the Duke of York’s Theatre, London. -

As I read the book, I really find it hard to believe that Priscilla would put some of the information she has in the book if Elvis was alive. There is quite a bit of their intimacy moments in the book and knowing what I've read about the two of them, it's hard to believe Priscilla even sharing this information. All I know is that I have very mixed feelings about the whole Elvis thing. Is it a money gimmick and/or just to keep Elvis and themselves in the limelight light. I do know that people are out to make a buck off of him. Some of those addresses on People Search are phony and they shouldn't be allowed to rip people off by using his middle initial and date of birth. -

Today is about you. What you have accomplished in your final two semesters is truly inspirational. Our AMDA community — YOUR AMDA community — stands in awe. To persevere in the face of uncertainty is the hallmark of a true artist. In this one endeavor, you have succeeded beyond all measure. Your determination, flexibility, and refusal to be defeated has been a joy to witness. We are here at this meaningful crossroads to celebrate you, our soon- to-be graduating students and your families. Of the many silver linings that have come from this global crisis, one enduring truth we have been reminded of is that we are a family — your AMDA family — you, your faculty, your staff, your fellow alumni, and your parents and families — we have joined together more deeply than ever, and in so doing have become an even richer, more loving community. Pops program lovingly skewers divas By Mark Kanny TRIBUNE-REVIEW CLASSICAL MUSIC CRITIC Saturday, April 21, 2007 Uproarious humor lifts the Pops' salute to Broadway Divas to a must-see show, one that also includes superb straight performances from the rich legacy of American musicals. As always, guest conductor Jack Everly brought a beautifully crafted production, created by the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra-managed Symphonic Pops Consortium, of which he is music director. The evening opens with a two-part musical prelude arranged by Everly that starts with an instrumental medley and is completed by four of the five singers performing "There's No Business Like Show Business." After Cara Johnston's winning solo in "I Could Have Danced All Night," Toni DiBuono offered the evening's first parody by singing "There's No Divas Like Old Divas, Like Old Divas Like Me" in Ethel Merman style. Everly introduced Heather Tepe, 14, as a "diva in training" to sing the ultimate child-star vehicle, "Tomorrow" from "Annie." Because "Tomorrow" has been ubiquitous to the point of absurdity, the following number had the audience in stitches. DiBuono returned in costume as Annie, as though she had sung the premiere 30 years ago. That Ethel Merman-style New York accent was perfect for "I'll be 49 -- ta- morrah." The lyrics by David Levy were hilarious through all its verses. The Pittsburgh Symphony performed magnificently under Everly's leadership, producing more beautiful sonorities -- fabulous strings -- with much better balances than it has at several of the Mellon Grand Classics concerts this season. Everly offered a little misdirection in his introduction to "With One Look" from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Sunset Boulevard" about aging star Norma Desmond.
