Conclusion Acknowledgement Bibliography Biographical Sketches Summary Data on the biological active substances and therapeutical properties of more than 131 medicinal and aromatic (spicy-aromatic) plants widely distributed and frequently used in Azerbaijan are given in this chapter. The majority of the described species contain flavonoids (115 sp.), vitamin C (84 sp.), fatty oils (78 sp.), tannins (77 sp.), alkaloids (74 sp.) and essential oils (73 sp.). A prevalence of these biological active substances defines the broad spectrum of therapeutic actions of the described plants. So, significant number of species possess antibacterial (69 sp.), diuretic (60 sp.), wound healing (51 sp.), styptic (46 sp.) and expectorant (45 sp.) peculiarities. The majority of the species are used in curing of gastrointestinal (89 sp.), bronchopulmonary (61 sp.), dermatovenerologic (61 sp.), nephritic (55 sp.) and infectious (52 sp.) diseases, also for treatment of festering -

Slow in the beginning but as soon as it anchors itself onto the ground it creates an umbrella like tree with sweet scented late spring flowers and most importantly 10cm white spines that will protect it from giraffes (if you have them!) and are very ornamental nevertheless. Acacia mearnsii 4€/20seeds. A nice medium sized tree with ferny foliage and pic panicles of soft lemon flowerheads in late spring. Don’t plant in areas where there is a danger of becoming invasive. Aechmea recurvata ´Big Mama´ 3€/20seeds. One of the best (and biggest) recurvata selections that colors up in pinks and oranges when in flower and then goes back to green when in fruit. Perfectly suited to screes and rocky soils on a big rock garden or equally at home at a Mediterranean drought tolerant border with good air circulation, this useful shrublet has both vibrant yellow flowers and peculiar round seedpods in short stems above the leaves. -

The 48 characters were accurately defined to cover as much of the easily observable aspects of vegetative and floral variation in the plants as possible. The data matrix was analyzed using the key-generating package of programs DELTA. The analysis produced a conventional key with a detailed description of every species in terms of the 48 characters. The key is decidedly a marked improvement over its predecessors in that it is strictly comparative. CYCLICITY AND MORPHOGENESIS OF SHOOTS OF PHLOMOIDES TUBEROSA (LAMIACEAE) IN DIFFERENT GROWING CONDITIONS IN THE SOUTH OF SIBERIA E. K. The most popular trait system is LHS (leaf-height-seed). At the same time, there is an active search for new functional traits which correlate with LHS-system. The shoot formation in Phlomoides tuberosa (L.) Moench is analyzed to find out whether it is appropriate to use the shoot lifespan (shoot cyclicity) as one of these characters. The structure of generative shoots of different cyclicity and their main biomorphological parameters in different ecological and cenotic conditions were also studied. P. tuberosa is a polycarpic short-rhizomatous plant with monocarpic shoots of different cyclicity, propagating by seeds. It is known that its shoot formation in the European part of Russia in water meadows is carried out from renewal buds with the development of dicyclic semirosette shoots. We have found that in the meadow-steppe communities of Southern Siberia the shoot formation is carried out from dormant buds with the development of a monocyclic generative shoot (75–80%). The monocyclic semirosette shoot is the main structural unit of the species in this region. The renewal buds are able to participate in shoot formation, in this case dicyclic shoots often develop. The development of the monocyclic semirosette shoot (from all types of buds) is associated with an acceleration of the rate of intrabud development of the semirosette shoot.
