Salo and nine other municipalities will merge at the beginning of the year 2009. Salo, Halikko, Kisko, Kuusjoki, Muurla, Kiikala, Suomusjärvi, Särkisalo, Pertteli and Perniö will form a new town. The town will be called Salo and the coat of arms will be the one of Halikko.
Municipal elections were held in Finland on the 26th October, 2008.

There were elected all together 75 members for the Town Council of Salo. This amount of councillors will be only during this coming four years period (2009-2012). After that there will be 51 members in the Council of Salo.

Town manager The present town manager Matti Rasila will retire in 2009. The recruitment process of a new city manager was launched in August 2008. Eleven persons sent in an application for the post of the town manager of Salo. Mr. Antti Rantakokkoi, present town manager of Kauhajoki was chosen among the candidates. He will start his work in Salo likely in February 2009.
