VINYL INCLUDES DOWNLOAD CD UPC: 714270692338 TRACK LISTING : OVERVIEW : In 1970 the Southern soul music maverick Jerry Williams, Jr. made the most radical move of his 1 Answer Me, My Love 2:53 career. Frustrated with music business politics Williams reinvented himself as Swamp Dogg, an 2 Lonely 2:39 irreverent anti-hero smashing the conventions of commercial R&B music. Swamp Dogg’s debut release Total Destruction to Your Mind featured a post-apocalyptic take on the Muscle Shoals’ 3 I'll Pretend 4:25 sound, with lyrics inspired by the revolutionary politics and psychedelic drugs of the late ‘60s. 4 I'm Coming With Lovin' On My Mind 4:05 The music on Total Destruction to Your Mind stood worlds apart from the formulaic pop tunes Williams started cutting in 1954 under the name Little Jerry, and Swamp Dogg hasn’t looked 5 $$$ Huntin' 5:31 back since. 6 I Love Me More 3:36 Now, nearly fifty years after his debut release, Swamp Dogg stands on the precipice of 7 Sex With Your Ex 4:32 another radical reinvention. His latest creation is titled Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune a nine song 8 She's All Mind All Mind 4:32 collection featuring production by Poliça’s Ryan Olson. Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune finds Swamp Dogg’s bluesy southern soul colliding head-on with 21st Century electronic music 9 Star Dust 3:48 production techniques. The reference to Auto-Tune in the title is not incidental, the album’s sound is built around Swamp Dogg’s experimentation with the ubiquitous vocal processor. While Auto-Tune has RECOMMENDED IF YOU LIKE : become a fixture of the modern pop music landscape, this is Swamp Dogg’s first major Swamp Dogg exploration of the device. “Every time I listen to some new music that everybody thinks is the Frank Zappa greatest thing since hot biscuits, it's full of Auto-Tune,” Swamp Dogg says. His use of Auto-Tune technology is not gratuitous. Like Kanye West on 808s & Heartbreak, Swamp Dogg utilizes the Captain Beefheart cold digital tone of Auto-Tune to convey a sense of emotional detachment during the album’s Gnarls Barkley most anguished moments. Curtis Mayfield "The songs are about being lonely,” Swamp Dogg says of Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune. The feeling of loneliness is particularly palpable on the hauntingly beautiful “I’ll Pretend,” which features vocals from Justin Vernon. Swamp Dogg describes the song as a character study QUOTES : about “a guy sitting in a restaurant by himself losing his fucking mind because he’s hoping his woman is gonna walk by, but she's at a Ramada Inn somewhere fucking somebody else to death." Despite the record’s overriding theme of loss, Swamp Dogg’s warped sense of humor is still intact. Let’s remember that we’re talking about an artist who released a “greatest hits” album in 1976 filled entirely with new songs! Swamp’s comic side is evident on “$$$ Hunting,” which rolls out with a funky Zapp-like bounce. There’s also “Sex With Your Ex,” where Swamp Dogg extols the benefits of the song’s title theme over random bursts of feedback and noise. Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune is a gem, a unique and unpredictable moment in the life of a unique and unpredictable artist that some consider a national treasure. “I might be the only one,” Swamp Dogg says. “But I think Swamp Dogg is a national treasure.” joyful noise recordings 1030 Orange St | Indianapolis, IN 46203 joyfulnoiserecordings.com [email protected].

Tributes were paid to three artists who had died since last year’s edition: Solomon Burke, a champion of the festival whose most recent appearance had been two years ago, and Clay Hammond and Al Green (of the Green Brothers), who had both performed last year. Of course, each of these three singers could be said to have had a good innings; however, during the festival, reports came through of the tragedy unfolding in Norway and the loss of many young lives, and also the, perhaps not unexpected, early death of Amy Winehouse. Adding to the sense of loss was a moving speech by the widow of Ernesto De Pascale, a journalist who had made a valued contribution to the growth of the festival. Porretta 2011 will also be remembered for the weather. Whilst the pessimist amongst us had predicted rain on the basis of the forecast of a 50% chance of precipitation each day, he turned out to be no more than half right. We did eventually wake up to rain on the third morning, but fortunately none of the performances were affected, although the lower than usual temperatures during the day meant for some cold evenings to the extent that several layers of clothing were required, and even a woolly hat was called for on the last night.

  • Hør Første Låt Fra Swamp Doggs Kommende Album "Love, Loss, and Auto- Tune"
Foto: Erik Magidan Heck 14-06-2018 18:06 CEST Swamp Dogg & Justin Vernon – "I'll Pretend" – hør første låt fra Swamp Doggs kommende album "Love, Loss, and Auto- Tune" Nytt album fra Swamp Dogg – "Love, Loss, and Auto-Tune" ute 7. september Hør første låt "I'll Pretend" med Justin Vernon "It’s fucking awesome." – Stereogum "Swamp Dogg is a national treasure."

Salmons HIP HOP, BLUEGRASS, BANJOS, AND SOLIDARITY: RACE AND CLASS HISTORIES IN APPALACHIA U.S.A Patrick Salmons ABSTRACT This dissertation examines the historical race and class tensions across the United States, and particularly focuses on Appalachia as a potential place of resistance against racial and class injustice. Arguing for a thick cross-racial solidarity movement, I examine the history of Black oppression from slavery to current modes of oppression such as mass incarceration and colorblind constitutionalism. The presence of anti-Black racism and under acknowledgement of whiteness hinders any form of cross-racial solidarity. To combat this, I ask, are the genres of hip hop, bluegrass, and country able to provide a reckoning of the continual racial oppression of Black people and an acknowledgement of whiteness, in Appalachia and the U.S.? I examine the historical progression of bluegrass and country, and hip hop, through the history of the banjo and music industry. The banjo, an African instrument, links Appalachia with histories of both Black expression and racial oppression. From here, I argue that the history of the music industry provides a further understanding of racial injustice that is parallel to the instances of institutional racial injustice in the U.S.

The Rhythm and Blues: Tel/It Like It Is program is an exploration of the rich historical, cultural, and musical matrix of R&B . Through music and dance performances , workshops, and narrative discussions, this program considers R&B as a collaborative art form that is shaped by composers , performers, producers, and communities of listeners. Most importantly, it highlights how music provides a dynamic lens to explore the relationship of African American history and experiences to American popular culture. The history of R&B and the breadth of what it encompasses-socially, commercially, and artistically suggests that it is not monolithic.
