This year’s MED'16 conference, in Athens, Greece, is the 24th MED conference. The very first MED took place in 1993 in Chania, Greece and since then the MED has been in Cyprus, Italy, France (Corsica), Croatia, Turkey, Israel, Portugal, Morocco, Spain and several times in Greece (for a complete list of the MED conferences, see www.med-control.org). This year we are back in Athens and in the same venue, nine years after the 2007 conference that also took place here. The objective of MED has always been to bring together researchers, scientists and engineers in the area of Control Systems and Automation from the Mediterranean countries, who share much more than technical interests, among other things, culture and history. Ever since the 1st MED, there has been strong and continuing interest in the MED conferences and the success of recent conferences, including the present one, bears witness to this fact. I must say that attendees as well as organizations do appreciate the value and contributions of the MED to the profession. The Mediterranean Control Association (MCA) is the sponsoring, parent organization and oversees all the MED conferences. MCA was founded in 1998 and is registered in Cyprus as a non-profit organization (see the MCA website at www.med-control.org ) The MED conferences have been technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Control Systems Society and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, and they have consistently kept high quality standards both in the technical program and the conference organization. This is primarily due to the authors, who submit technically sound papers, and to the tremendous effort of all the volunteers involved in the technical evaluation of these papers and in the organization of the conferences. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their time, effort and wonderful work. Remember that the MED Conference Proceedings may be found on line at http://ieeexplore.ieee.org. The Proceedings of early MED Conferences may be found at www.med-control.org I hope you do enjoy MED'16 and take full advantage of your stay in Athens, taking in the sites and also relaxing. In 2017, the 25th MED will go to Malta, and I hope to see you all there, as well. Thank you for your participation and contributions to MED’16! Panos Antsaklis, President Mediterranean Control Association (MCA) WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE GENERAL CHAIRS Dear participants and attendees: On behalf of the 2016 MED Organizing Committee, it is a privilege and a great pleasure to welcome you to this year’s Conference. The 2016 MED is coming back to Athens, nine years after the 2007 conference. The three-day Conference is preceded by a one-day Workshops / Tutorials program. The Conference venue is the luxurious Divani Caravel Hotel, one of the top-rated hotels in Europe and Greece. We are certain that you will be very pleased with the conference venue. Conference attendees represent academia, industry, government agencies and students, all having

  • Correspondence of Maria Van Rensselaer (1669-1689)
CORRESPONDENCE OF MARIA VAN RENSSELAER 1669-1689 Translated and edited by A. J. F. VAN LAER Archivist, Archives and History Division ALBANY THE UNIVERSITY OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK I 935 PREFACE In the preface to the Correspondence of Jeremias van Rens selaer, which was piiblished in 1932, attention was called to the fact that after the death of Jeremias van Rensselaer his widow carried on a regular correspondence with her husband's youngest brother, Richard van Rensselaer, in regard to the administration of the colony of Rensselaerswyck, and the plan was announced to publish this correspondence in another volume. This plan has been carried into effect in the present volume, which contains translations of all that has been preserved of the correspondence of Maria van Rensselaer, including besides the correspondence with her brother-in-law many letters which passed between her and her brother Stephanus van Cortlandt and other members of the Van Cortlandt family. Maria van Rensselaer was born at New York on July 20, 1645, and was the third child of Oloff Stevensen van Cortlandt and his wife Anna Loockermans. She married on July 12, 1662, when not quite 17 years of age, Jeremias van Rensselaer, who in 1658 had succeeded his brother Jan Baptist van Rensse laer as director of the colony of Rensselaerswyck. By him she had four sons and two daughters, her youngest son, Jeremias, being born shortly after her husband's death, which occurred on October 12, 1674. As at the time there was no one available who could succeed Jeremias van Rensselaer as director of the colony, the burden of its administration fell temporarily upon his widow, who in this emergency sought the advice of her brother Stephanus van Cortlandt.

  • OMUN – 2Nd Record – Tribute to the Fall
ÓMUN 2019 • NEW ALBUM « TRIBUTE TO THE FALL » WITH www.atelierhurf.net Pascal Charrier: guitar MMXVIII Julien Tamisier: keyboards, electronics Yannis Frier Yannis Philippe Lemoine: tenor saxophone > DESIGN Teun Verbruggen: drumkit, electronics GRAPHIC www.nainoprod.com ÓMUN 1 ÓMUN brings together four musicians from the European contemporary jazz and improvised music scenes: Pascal Charrier (guitar), Julien Tamisier (keyboards, electronics), Philippe Lemoine (tenor saxophone) and Teun Verbruggen (drumkit, electronics). The quartet’s sound is a combination of timbres and resonances. Every kind of approach is taken in a mixture of acoustic, electric, uncommon instrumental sounds as well as electronic and electroacoustic treatment of various sound sources. Dramatic generation of material and soundscapes disrupt bearings and invent a instantaneous poetry through processing, deconstruction and distortion. The listener navigates through a sea of reminiscences, guided by fragments of melodies like the residues of a collective memory. With this new repertory, the music places sound matter at the centre of the drama, questioning notions of permanence (emotions, bodies, ideas) and time (perpetual movement, spirals, abysses). The traditional stage/audience layout is also questioned with the creation of a circular common ground which gives both performers and audience the possibility to move around, thus changing their visual and auditive perception. This project is also pushed forward in the quintet version of the show called ÓMUN-IMAGE, in which
