It might apply to the weight of your take on the blues, as with Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin. It might mean the originality of Jethro Tull or King Crimson. It might equally apply to an individual- to Eric Clapton, for example, The Beatles are the saints of the 1960s, and George Harrison an especially "heavy person". This year, heavy people flock together. Clapton and Steve Winwood join up in Blind Faith. Steve Marriott and Pete Frampton meet in Humble Pie. Crosby, Stills and Nash admit a new member, Neil Young. Supergroups, or more informal supersessions, serve as musical summit meetings for those who are reluctant to have theirwork tied down by the now antiquated notion of the "group". Trouble of one kind or another this year awaits the leading examples of this classic formation. Our cover stars The Rolling Stones this year part company with founder member Brian Jones. The Beatles, too, are changing - how, John Lennon wonders, can the group hope to contain three contributing writers? The Beatles diversification has become problematic.

  • CNHI Woodstock 20190814
A half-century later, the mother of all music festivals still resonates ifty years after the fact, it still resonates with us. Tucked up in the Catskill Mountains, the Woodstock Music & Art Fair — promoted as “An Aquarian Exposition, Three Days of Peace and Music,” but known to one and all as simply Woodstock — took place in 1969 over three-plus days. From Friday, Aug. 15, through the morning of Monday, Aug. 18, dairy farmer Max Yasgur’s 600- acre parcel of land in Bethel, New York — forever immortalized in Joni Mitchell’s “Woodstock” (ironically, she wasn’t at the event itself) — became the epicenter of the music and cultural universe, a haven for 400,000-plus hippies, bohemians, music lovers and mem- bers of the counterculture. It began when folkie Richie Havens began strumming his gui- tar, kicking off the festival with Paul Gerry/Bethel Woods Collection “From the Prison.” Thirty-two more acts, about 66 hours and several rainstorms later, it ended when guitar god Jimi Hendrix capped off a stellar set with his rendition of “Hey Joe.” Thousands of cars were left stranded for miles and miles en route to the venue as concertgo- ers walked to their destination. Tickets for the festival were $18, but many attendees got in for free when the crowd more than tripled what organizers had anticipated. Dallas Taylor, the drummer for supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (playing just its second-ever show), asked the helicopter pilot James Sarles/Bethel Woods Collection James Sarles/Bethel Woods Collection flying him to the event what body of More than 400,000 people descended on a dairy farm in Bethel, N.Y., for the concert held 50 years ago.

A related social sub-context addressed in detail in Appendix A of Section 8 is the role the Burgess played in the regional 1950s and 1960s pop music culture, with emphasis on the teen dances/concerts held at the facility and the bands that played there. The research of the associated contexts and the preparation of the nomination form were undertaken by Stephen A. Long tables were gaily deco- rated with festive arrangements. Steaming casseroles and platters piled with treats from sweet potatoes and roasts to cookies and pies, with salads and vegetable plates, breads and dips, relishes and sweets in between. There was plenty to feed the multitude who lined up patiently, chattering merrily through polite lines as they spooned and dipped their selec- tions onto teeming plates. Virginia Park, Pastor of Zion UMC, offered a prayer before the meal, then Vicki Finnegan, along with Ginny's vocal help, and Tama Schodowski at the piano guided us in favorite and familiar carols. Audience help was solicit- ed to perform a make-shift rendition of the Twelve Days of Christmas, bringing healthy laughter to all. Route 61 Music & Hemifrån proudly present A SINGER-SONGWRITERS' TRIBUTE TO THE MUSIC OF CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG A 2-disc / 36-page booklet deluxe set. 27 artists, 27 songs. A tribute to the outstanding body of work produced by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. A benefit for the Equestrian Therapy Co-op* in Brandeis, California. *Equestrian Therapy is horseback riding for children and adults who can personally benefit from a natural encounter with horses. By combining horsemanship with concepts of physical and occupational therapy, Equestrian Therapy Co-Op programme promotes balance, coordination, focus and self-confidence in children and adults with special needs. PRODUCERS' NOTE Like all of the musicians on this album, we grew up deeply affected by the music of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Perhaps it was even deeper for us as Europeans, because America was only a place we dreamed of, a far-off romantic world that we tried to understand, and music, movies and books were the among the ways we discovered it. This album is our little effort to thank the four men who opened up that world to us, and made it sing in harmony for more than forty years. Heartfelt thanks go also to all of the artists and bands — most of them good friends of ours — who are part of our larger musical world. Not only did you create your own great music, gifting us with beautiful original songs, but helped us make this tribute album possible. Music is love. That has always been the case. Once upon a time, through the songs of CSNY, we discovered that love was worldwide.

mortality rates are high in the rock field these days. Even the Beatles-established a mere six years before Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young- produced nearly twenty al- bums before the group announced a parting of the ways. For those who respond to the musical nourishment of- fered by CSNY, the probable death of this group teach Mozart's will continue on his own, one hopes) comes as a par- ticularly regrettable blow. Of the army of groups float- ing around this is the one we cannot afford to lose. But Symphonic Miracles considering the insensitivity of the music business, per- haps they can't afford to go on. Shortly after their first album (an instant hit, kicked Karl Böhm conducts the early works- off by its chart single Marakesh Express), Crosby, Stills, Pablo Casals explores and Nash took on a fourth member: singer /writer/ guitarist Neil Young, already in sympathy with Steve the six late masterpieces Stills from their time together in another group, Buffalo Springfield (in itself a stylistic forerunner of CSNY). Drummer /percussionist Dallas Taylor also appears on by Paul Henry Lang both albums. This group creates its existence not on stage but in the recording studio-yet another characteristic of today's musical climate (though most studio -created groups never approach the level this one has reached). Most or all of WHAT AN EXTRAORDINARY contrast Mozart presents on their material appears to be written and arranged in these new recordings: the budding classical symphony someone's smoky living room with the group gathered and its magnificent flowering!
