This is the only ‘natural’ open space within the village accessible to the public. Many residents spend time peacefully watching the river and the varied wildlife on and around it. It is also the home once a year for a popular traditional fun fair at the annual village Steam Up.

Gives a prominent location for the village sign which depicts historical scenes of local importance. Once a year it is home to the static engines at the Steam Up. One of the few (non garden) green spaces in the centre of the village.

Current use: 1 children’s play area 2 tarmac play ‘spaces’ 1 green ‘patch’ (clearly used for parking by red escort!)

These 4 areas were part of a Sec 106 agreement when the Fairview estate was built. They are within an extremely built up area with little greenery and are required for the intended purpose which is ‘play’. The play area is used not just by children from this estate but all areas of the village.

The church, which dates in part from the 13th Century and is Grade 1 listed provides a place of worship for the community together with a space for social and recreational gatherings. The churchyard contains the war memorial and other items of historical and cultural significance as well as providing an open space open to the community for relaxation and quiet contemplation.

Providing the current management team can attract more local custom then it is realistic to think that in the next five years the building could further the social wellbeing of the community.

The Community Centre is home to the Pre-school, Youth club, Brownies and Rainbows. There is a programme of regular classes that residents can attend, e.g. dance, art, fitness etc. It is available to hire for social events. The changing rooms/showers are hired by the sports team that use the pitches at the Recreation Ground.

It is and has been a key means of contact with the outside world for residents, it is one of the few ‘go to’ places in the village where interaction can happen for all members of our community, as well as a key service for those less mobile.
