This is a secure online entry form. On completion of section 1 you will be given a password which will enable you to return to the form at any time and complete the details as you have them. Only when you submit the form at the end will the form be considered for entry under the rules of the competition. No hard copy forms will be accepted. ENTRY FOR INDIVIDUAL LANGUAGE ABILITY SECTION A school may enter up to a maximum of 3 students for the Individual Language Ability section, with 1 student in each category. Students entering the Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced categories:  must be non-native speaking learners of Mandarin Chinese;  may not have previously received the prize (or runner-up awarded the prize if the winner could not take it) in any category of the Individual Language Ability section;  may not have a native Chinese* speaking parent or be from a Chinese* speaking household; (*any Chinese language/dialect);  may not have lived in a country where Mandarin Chinese is an official language.  who come from countries surrounding China or who have parentage from countries where an Asian language is spoken will need to demonstrate their level of learning as well as indicating any periods of time spent in any country where Mandarin is spoken.

ENTRY FOR GROUP PERFORMANCE SECTION

There must be between four and six students from the same school or college in a group, with students coming from at least two different year groups.

Students in the Group Performance section:

 must be non-native speaking learners of Mandarin Chinese;  may not have previously received the prize (or runner-up awarded the prize if the winner could not take it) in any category of the Individual Language Ability section or the Group Performance section;  may not have a native Chinese* speaking parent or be from a Chinese* speaking household; (*any Chinese language/dialect)  may not have lived in a country where Mandarin Chinese is an official language (*any Chinese language/dialect)  There must be five or six students from the same school or college in a group, with students coming from at least two different year groups.  The use of English in the performance either sung or spoken is not permitted.  Teachers must not be involved in the performance and no prompts or scripts are allowed  All students must perform equally within the group performance and the results from the Judges will reflect this “Cohesion” (for further information see the Judging Criteria).

Does your performance have any special requirements (e.g. a projector screen, microphone)? We will do our best to meet requests, but cannot guarantee that this will be possible. Please note: a CD player will be available for use in the performance.

Section 4 Child Protection and risk assessment

Please see the link to the following child protection and risk assessment forms. It is the responsibility of the school to ensure the correct documents have been read and signed off by the relevant party (school/parent/guardian). By ticking the box in section 6 we will assume that your school has all the necessary forms completed. Section 5 Data Protection 1998 notice The British Council will use the information that you are providing to organise and evaluate the HSBC/British Council Mandarin Chinese Speaking Competition and check entrants' eligibility for it, and to contact co-ordinating teachers and/or schools with competition details and for any clarification needed regarding their entry. By submitting this form you consent to our processing sensitive personal data about you and the students in your care where this is necessary. The British Council will treat all personal information in accordance with UK law and its own privacy policy. The British Council will not sell or disclose your details to third parties for commercial reasons. Your information will be shared at this stage only with individuals administering the event. Schools will be informed of the outcome of their entry by email by Friday 24 October 2014. Joining Information will be sent out via email shortly after this date.
