NCoNM NURSING COUNCIL OF NEW MEXICO

MEETING NOTES

Committee: NM CAT Date: October 14, 2009; Marriot Pyramid Hotel Members: Anita Reinhardt & Anna Abeyta

Priority: NCoNM meeting Summary of Accomplishments: A CAT has been set up in Taos with projects focusing on entry into practice. The group is investigating a number of programs both proprietary and non-proprietary. They are also working with Jo Bowman and the HOSA group to engage K-12 students in the nursing profession.

The CAT for Santa Fe area is still in the conversation phase with Pat Boyle providing support to Shannon Donahue.

We are waiting for a CAT in Albuquerque but the leaders there have been involved with the Common Curriculum project.

The So NM CAT has reviewed the implementation of the Oregon Model and will work closely with the state-wide Education Group on the Common Curriculum project. Members of this group from across the state will travel to Oregon for an invitational meeting about implementing a common curriculum in NM.

The So NM CAT will also advance a request to the BON for Nursing Excellence funds to review and then implement a state-wide clinical placement grid with regional control and potentially a on-line two step orientation for nursing students similar to that used in Tennessee. Preliminary information has been found by Pat Boyle and will be shared with the So NM CAT Retention and Recruitment sub-committee with a plan to do a pilot study in this region.

Goals for next meeting: Assess progress of the regional CATs

Next Meeting Date/Time: TBD by the NCoNM – Spring, 2010?
