Classroom Behavior: -Students are expected to come to class prepared with the necessary materials and homework needed for that day in class. -Students are expected to turn all electronic devices and cell phones off upon entering the classroom. -Students are expected to arrive to class on time and begin bell ringer upon arrival to class. -Students are expected to be respectful and courteous to staff and fellow classmates. -Students are expected to respect the materials and supplies in the classroom and refrain from vandalism or theft. Any student who does not follow the expectations above will receive a teacher detention, phone call home or office referral depending on severity.

Tardies: Students are expected to be in class and seated before the “late” bell. Students whom do not arrive to class before the late bell will be sent to Mr. Joyer’s office to get a tardy pass. Periods 1&2 are allowed 4 tardies per grading term, additional tardies will each result in a one hour detention. Tardies during periods 3,4,5,6,7,8 are automatic one hour detention for all tardies for all other periods—tardy sweeps will be regularly utilized. BEFORE attending any club meetings or school related activity you need to have a school related slip signed PRIOR to missing class. On club days you must sign in BEFORE going to club meetings and show your club card in order to be excused from class. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD RESULT IN BEING MARKED ABSENT AND NOT “SCHOOL RELATED”.

Class is dismissed by the Teacher and not the bell. Please do not line up at the classroom door.

Teacher Detentions: Teacher detention will be held in the classroom (6-021) after school. The day of the detention will be assigned at time of the infraction. A referral will be made to your administrator for repeated misbehavior or for skipping a detention.

CHEATING and PLAGARISM will result in an automatic “0” with no exceptions to all parties involved. There are no warnings or second chances when it comes to cheating or plagiarism. School Assigned Detention: School assigned detentions occur usually in the cafeteria. A missed detention will automatically become ABS (Alternative Bell Schedule 1:50pm – 6:oo pm)

Hall Pass Policy: According to school policy hall passes cannot be issued the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of each class period. Passes should be used for emergencies only. If you abuse your hall pass privileges by staying out of the classroom more than 5 minutes or frequent use will cause you to lose your hall pass privileges all together. Misuse of this privilege as determined by the administrator or teacher can result in no passes at all, any time.

You will need to request permission from your teacher to leave the room at all times. It is the teacher’s discretion to whether or not to administer a hall pass. The teacher will administer you a hall pass and you will need to sign out and in on the clipboard as shown below.

Name Date Where? Time out: Time in: Your Name 8/27/13 Bathroom 10:00 am 10:05 am

Grading Policy : Your grade will be determined by a variety of methods Critical Concepts Unit tests/Quizzes 50% Application Labs/Class work 30% Practice Homework 20%

Grading Scale: 100-90 =A 89-80 = B 79-70 = C 69-60 = D 59 and below = F

Because students will know what assignments are due and when, I do not accept late work. Due dates will be posted in class and on my website. Work not turned in on time will be recorded as a zero grade for non absent students. Students will be given only one copy of any handout or assignment. Students who lose their copies will have to make a copy of the original item in the media center at their expense or look on the web site to print out a copy, if available.

A. Students who miss biology class, for ANY reason, but are at school for other classes, will still be required to turn in any work due that day before they leave. If not turned in that day, then work is late and zero grade will be given. If a test/quiz was given, they must see me prior to leaving for the day to make arrangements for makeup*.

B. School board policy allows for students a day to make up missed work for every full school day they are absent. That means if a student is absent one school day, they have one day to turn in makeup work, two days absent, two days to make up work, etc. School Board Policy also states that students must receive a letter grade reduction on any work made up after any unexcused absences. Notes from parents for excusing absences must be turned in to the office within 48 hours after the absence.

C. If a student is absent on a lab day, he or she will be given an alternative assignment or will need to schedule a time to do the lab after school. End of Course Exam: Students are expected to take the Florida State Biology End of Course Exam. This exam has replaced the FCAT science test. Students are required to pass the Biology End of Course Exam in order to pass Biology and achieve a scholar diploma. For standard diploma the EOC counts toward 30% of the students overall grade and must pass the course. Biology is a required course for graduation.

Bell Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday Period: Time: 1st or 2nd 7:05 to 8:35 3rd or 4th 8:42 to 10:14 (2 extra minutes for announcements) Lunch 10:21 to 10:51 5th or 6th 10:58 to 12:28 7th or 8th 12:35 to 2:05
