Students: Austin Agostinelli, Amanda Hyland, Joe Rossi Project: Biodiversity Dates: October 24-26, 2012 Presentation: October 29, 2012

Costa Rica is known for it biodiversity. In fact, it is one of the twenty countries with the greatest number of plant and animal species in the world. More than 500,000 species can be found in Costa Rica, representing 5% of the total species estimated worldwide. Over 25% of Costa Rica’s land is protected, more than any other country on earth. Many of these protected areas have been established as National Parks, Reserves, and Wildlife Refuges, attracting visitors from all over the world with a curiosity about its unique and varied flora and fauna.

You are each to chose one of Costa Rica’s National Parks or Reserves and create one PowerPoint that illustrates a variety of plants and animals that can be found in each of your selected Parks or Reserves.

1. Work as a group so that you each highlight different species.

2. Conduct your research online to find information about the area and what type of unique plants and animals can be found there.

3. Design a PowerPoint that includes the name of each area chosen, a map illustrating where each is located in Costa Rica, and photos of several species, as well as their names in Spanish.

4. Each student will need to research two species in depth from their Park or Reserve to share information with the class.

You will have three class periods to complete this project. If you have any questions email them to [email protected]
