Kalra BEYOND RELIGION IN INDIA AND PAKISTAN Gender and Caste, Borders and Boundaries Beyond Religion in India and Pakistan 9781350041752_txt_final.indd 1 24-09-2019 21:23:27 Bloomsbury Studies in Religion, Gender, and Sexuality Series Editors: Dawn Llewellyn, Sîan Hawthorne and Sonya Sharma This interdisciplinary series explores the intersections of religions, genders, and sexualities. It promotes the dynamic connections between gender and sexuality across a diverse range of religious and spiritual lives, cultures, histories, and geographical locations, as well as contemporary discourses around secularism and non-religion. The series publishes cutting-edge research that considers religious experiences, communities, institutions, and discourses in global and transnational contexts, and examines the fluid and intersecting features of identity and social positioning. Using theoretical and methodological approaches from inter/transdisciplinary perspectives, Bloomsbury Studies in Religion, Gender, and Sexuality addresses the neglect of religious studies perspectives in gender, queer, and feminist studies, and offers a space in which gender-critical approaches to religions engage with questions of intersectionality, particularly with respect to critical race, disability, post-colonial and decolonial theories. 9781350041752_txt_final.indd 2 24-09-2019 21:23:27 Beyond Religion in India and Pakistan Gender and Caste, Borders and Boundaries Virinder S. ZULM ZAKHM AZAADI Women’s Voices of Resistance in Kashmir Women against Sexual Violence and State Repression (WSS) Zulm Zakhm Azaadi: Women’s Voices of Resistance in Kashmir A visit to extend solidarity to the women of Kashmir was made in September 2019 by members of Women against Sexual Violence and State Repression (WSS). We were overwhelmed by the love and kashmiriyat that people extended to us, in spite of the difficulties they were facing. The observations, conversations and discussions we had during this visit are the basis of this book. We would like to thank all the people who met, spoke and travelled with us and shared their testimonies, experiences, thoughts and opinions and mapped out the history of Kashmir with all its contours. Several people have contributed to the putting together of this book. The team that made this visit has been supported in many ways - from contacting people, to helping to navigate, comprehend, Others have helped in structuring, writing, contributing photographs, sending comments and suggestions, editing and proof reading the drafts. A special thanks to all those who have extended visible and invisible support. Their time and effort has helped shape and guide this work, making it a collective endeavor in every sense. A Call to Prayer Unengaged Unreached Muslim Peoples of North India '#&ع $#"! 30 Days of Prayer “Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, and come with me. See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land. The fig-tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me.” Song of Songs 2:10-13 God is doing a new thing in Northern India. For a number of years we have been speaking of the hidden bride – the 100’s thousands of unengaged, unreached, Muslim people groups. Now we sense that it is time to mobilise some intense prayer and intercession as the North Indian Bride begins to make herself ready. In this so called desert we want to call out the flowers, hear the new song and feel the wind of the Holy Spirit blow. We want to see fruit in terms of new workers sent and new expressions of Christ started. We are launching a 30 day period of prayer and fasting for North India starting Easter Sunday 31st March. Feel free to pray on the ground with us and think about mobilising prayer within your church wherever you are during this period.
