The topsoil was removed down to the chalk substrate. An examination of the cleared area revealed a number of possible archaeological features including pits, linear disturbances and a circular ditch. The circular feature was sectioned in two places. It was a strong possibility that the circular feature was an Iron Age roundhouse. The pieces of dressed stone tended to suggest that significant building may once have stood in the vicinity of Hog Croft. A number of linear features appeared to lie to the east and north of the ones excavated. Brighton : Brighton and Hove Archaeological Field Unit, 2002, 21pp, figs, tabs, refs Work undertaken by: Brighton and Hove Archaeological Field Unit Excavations have provided evidence for a cow burial, pits or possible tree hollows, and a ditch. Results from a resistivity survey could prove to be part of a Romano-British round house. A magnetometer survey found possible pits, post holes and a new ditch feature but produced no real evidence for buildings. [Au(adp)] Archaeological periods represented: RO, UD 3.
