United Nations / Ujedinjene nacije / Уједињене нације Office of the Resident Coordinator / Ured rezidentnog koordinatora / Уред резидентног координатора Bosnia and Herzegovina / Bosna i Hercegovina / Босна и Херцеговина Bosnia and Herzegovina – Flood Disaster Situation Report June 8, 2014 HIGHLIGHTS/KEY PRIORITIES: ° The Federal and the RS meteorological Institutes report that the weather conditions will be getting better and that temperatures will be rising; ° Federal and Republic of Srpska Hydrological Report indicates that water levels are in most locations going down. ° UNICEF is continuing to collect data on WASH from its partners and the field. ° In most locations water systems have been re-established, water is still not potable in many areas; ° Epidemiological situation is stable and no outbreaks have been reported in flood-stricken areas. ° Doboj, Maglaj, Olovo, Una-Sana Canton and Posavina regions at the basin of Bosna, Krivaja and Usora rivers have been identified as mine and UXOs suspected areas ; ° Number of persons accommodated in temporary accommodation facilities 1531. Zmaja od Bosne bb, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia and Herzegovina Tel: (387-33) 293 428 / Fax: (387-33) 552 330 / www.un.ba SITUATION OVERVIEW: Most affected areas ° Federation: Sarajevo Canton (most affected municipalities: Novi Grad, Ilidza, Vogosca), Zenica-Doboj Canton (most affected municipalities: Tesanj, Zepce, Maglaj, Doboj Jug, Zavidovići i Olovo), Tuzla canton (13 municipalities of which the most affected are: Srebrenik, Tuzla, Lukavac, Gračanica, Sapna and Doboj Istok), Central Bosnia Canton (Travnik and Vitez surrounding areas), Posavina Canton (most affected municipalities: Orašje, Domaljevac, Odžak). ° RS: The most affected municipalities are Banja Luka, Kotor Varos Laktasi, Ribnik, Kostajnica, Prijedor, Jezero, Novi Grad; Bijeljina, Bratunac, Vlasenica, Zvornik, Lopare, Milići, Osmaci, Ugljevik, Srebrenica, Sekovići; Doboj, Modrica, Samac, Brod, Donji Zabar, Vukosavlje, Petrovo, Srbac. More municipalities have been affected but were not covered by the reporting institution. ° Brcko District (Source: OKC BiH 112 Report, 8 June 2014) Landslides Local authorities have been taking necessary measures to evacuate the population in danger and to keep the landslides under control. SANA PRIJEDOR 52 39,9 ▼ DONJI RIBNIK - - - RIBNIK GORNJI RIBNIK 47 - ▼ VRBAS BANJA LUKA 136 67,5 ▼ DELIBAŠINO 95 75,4 ▼ SELO VRBANJA VRBANJA 48 3,4 ▼ CRNA MRKONJIĆ 24 - ● RIJEKA GRAD TREBIŠNJICA TREBINJE 7 - ▲ BOSNA DOBOJ -82 82,6 ▼ NERETVA ULOG -45 1,2 ▼ WASH: UNICEF is continuing to collect data on WASH from its partners: ° Most flooded areas in the north are now dry; ° EUCP organized a coordination meeting in Orasje with eight humanitarian organizations and local government representatives from Orasje, Samac and Domaljevac; ° Last EUCP High Capacity Pumping team left on 8 June 2014; ° Water purification, decontamination, water analysis is ongoing in the north of the country and East Brcko; ° Free capacities in purifying water, more water can be purified – at the moment 50% performance in the north; ° In Posavina the water-piping system is working at 90% capacity and 11,000 people are connected; ° In Samac the water pumping system is not working. Purification of 40,000 liters operational. There are concerns about distribution capacities; ° Analysis of public and official wells will be finished within the following week. Next aim will be to start sampling of private wells due to priority and strategic positions; ° Local authorities will need support in terms of well rehabilitation, and rebuilding of sanitation infrastructure (toilets, showers...); ° No official coordination in Doboj. Need for dryers and dehydrator units along with disinfection for flats. Switzerland providing water testing capacity and pumps; ° WHO has deployed two water purification units with 100,000 liters capacity each day in Doboj and Odzak. Health authorities in BiH are finalizing activities to reduce risks for vector-borne transmission of certain diseases, which include aerial mosquito spraying in the flood-affected areas of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia. The initial round of aerial spraying started on 6 June, with spraying of flood-affected municipalities in Posavina Canton of the Federation of BIH. ° Final delivery of two Interagency Emergency Health Kits (IEHK) provided by WHO to the Ministry of Health of the Federation of BiH and the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republika Srpska was organized on 6 June, and the kits were send to Zenica and Banja Luka respectively. ° Second UN Health Sector Coordination Meeting under the lead of WHO took place on 4 May, with participation of the representatives of all health authorities in BiH (Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, Ministry of Health of the Federation of BiH, Ministry of Health and Social Welfare of the Republika Srpska and Department of Health and Other Services of the Brcko District BiH) and international partners who are working/helping recovery of the health sector in BiH. In this meeting, the overview of the situation and the immediate needs was given by the health authorities in BIH, progress in preparing health chapter of PDNA presented, and the support provided and planned from the international community discussed in detail. (Source: IOM field assessment, Saturday, June 7, 2014) Humanitarian response and early recovery ° In Posavina Canton the humanitarian response is still on-going, while in the rest of the country we are already entering in the early recovery and recovery phase. ° Services are slowly being re-established , as electricity and water services, bus and transportation, road traffic, etc. are slowly stabilizing. ° Debris removal and cleaning of roads and houses are also on-going, as well as disinfection. ° Emerging priorities are soil decontamination, replanting of seeds in time for the crops season, livestock repopulation, feed for livestock, housing, reestablishment of services from the municipalities and reconstruction of the industrial and commercial network, thus providing livelihood to affected populations. Damages to infrastructure ° Highway M-17 Maglaj-Doboj (in Kosova) is functional. ° Porion of highway M-14.1 Lončari-Brčko is not functional. ° Landslides have caused for regional roads R-458 Lopare-Gornja Tuzla, Bratunac- Drinjača, Fakovići-Skelani i Šekovići-Kaštelj , R-477 Podgradci-Mrakovica and the regional road in Veselinovac to be closed; Highways M-16.1 Klašnice-Prnjavor in Čardačani and M-19 Šepak-Vlasenica and Zvornik-Bijeljina, M-20 Bileća- Gacko in Stepen, Konjević Polje-Fakovići, M-4 Karakaj-Caparde, R-454 Bratunac- Zmaja od Bosne bb, Sarajevo 71000, Bosnia and Herzegovina Tel: (387-33) 293 428 / Fax: (387-33) 552 330 www.un.ba Sikiri, R-446b Zagon-Jasik , (R-476) Ukrina – G.
