Office of LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis LEGISLATIVE AIDE - Justice Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis’ office has immediate openings for a Legislative Aide. The First District is home to two million residents, across 246 square miles, in diverse communities from unincorporated East Los Angeles and Valinda, MacArthur Park to Eagle Rock, and South Gate to Pomona. The candidate must be community-oriented and have an interest in policy that improves the quality of life for residents of LA County and especially First District constituents. The Legislative Aide will form part of the First District’s Legislative team and will work alongside the Senior Policy Deputies to implement Supervisor Solis’ policy priorities. The Legislative Aide will work at the direction of a Senior Legislative Deputy and collaborate with the district engagement team, county departments, other board of Supervisor’s offices, cities within the district, constituents, community groups and other stakeholders to advance policy initiatives that create opportunity for disadvantaged communities, increase transparency in local government, create jobs, and enhance and safeguard the environment. Policy Areas that will be addressed by the Legislative Aide include: • Juvenile justice; • Jail conditions; • Effective and just policing • Anti-recidivism • Prop 47 & reentry • Criminal justice system reform Duties: • At the direction of the Senior Deputy, Monitor State and Federal policies that could benefit the residents of the First District and the region • At the direction of the Senior Deputy, conduct policy research • At the direction of the Senior Deputy, draft motions that advance Supervisor Solis’ policy priorities • Attend department meetings, track board items and prepare briefing memos • Work with the Senior Deputy to craft the best policy solutions for residents of the First District • Attend community meetings and district events Required Skills: • Must be able to work independently • Must be highly motivated and committed • Must be able to work on several projects or issues simultaneously • Must be a team player • Ability to attend to details while focusing on big-picture goals • Ability to work with others to craft and advance comprehensive policy solutions that value community opportunity, sustainability, and the environment. • Ability to analyze policy issues and prepare briefing memos in a fast paced environment • Ability to work with racially and socio-economically diverse communities • Familiarity with the First District • Knowledge of LA County systems Minimum Qualifications: • Two (2) years of policy experience working for an elected official or in the private sector. • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred Qualifications: • A JD or advanced degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, or a related field.
