USF/SF Ethics Commission Lobbyist Project Status Report, April 5, 2005
Goals
1. Build a relational database and web application for filing lobbyist information. 2. Take advantage of nature of on-line application to: a. Ease the task of data entry by displaying previously entered data. b. Allow user to choose people from lists, instead of re-entering and possibly creating duplicative data (with name off by a space or something) 3. Auto-generate word reports and printed form reports 4. Build a lobbyist viewing application that displays relationships, allows for various queries, and integrates campaign finance data. Status Team has an in-depth understanding of the data. We re-designed the database from the original architecture. Backend database operations are ~90% complete Web Application for Input o see http://bay.cs.usfca.edu/SFLobbyist/LobbyistLogin.aspx to try. o Init Registration and Re-Registration forms “complete” . need data integrity checks . need to allow choosing existing persons on all forms . more testing and debugging o Quarterly Report . Four additional forms have been designed but not implemented o Sequencing and Recording of Forms . Needs to be completed o Auto-Generation . Needs to be completed Web Application for Viewing o Can view lobbyist information o Can view lobbyist/client relationships o Need additional queries and integration with campaign finance database o Need to obtain existing lobbyist data from Ethics commission and import into system. Future Should we proceed? Someone from Ethics Commission to work with (knowledgeable user) Deadline May 12—Complete Input forms and ability to print forms. Summer o Deployment on Ethics Commission Site o Testing with real filers. o Auto-generate word reports Funding—some left for summer but could use a bit more
