It formed in 1980 in Bellevue, Washington out of the local band the Mob. The band has released 15 studio albums, one EP, several DVDs, and continues to tour and record. The original lineup consisted of guitarists Michael Wilton and Chris DeGarmo, drummer Scott Rockenfield, bassist Eddie Jackson, and lead vocalist Geoff Tate. Queensrche has sold over 20 million albums worldwide, including over 6 million albums in the United States. The band received worldwide acclaim after the release of their 1988 album Operation: Mindcrime, which is often considered one of the greatest heavy metal concept albums of all time. Their follow-up release, Empire, released in 1990, was also very successful and included the hit single "Silent Lucidity". The band has received three Grammy Award nominations for songs from both albums. In 1998, drummer Rockenfield received an individual Grammy nomination. In 1998, lead/rhythm guitarist and primary songwriter DeGarmo left the band for personal reasons. Over the years, his replacements have been Kelly Gray, Mike Stone, and Parker Lundgren. Following a highly publicized backstage altercation before a show in So Paulo, Brazil, in April 2012, Tate was fired from the band and replaced with then-Crimson Glory singer Todd La Torre. In response to his dismissal, Tate and his wife Susan (who served as the band's manager from 20052012) filed a lawsuit in a Washington court, claiming that he was wrongfully terminated. The ruling in the preliminary injunction was that both parties were allowed to use the name Queensrche until a court ruling or a settlement decided who would get to use the name. A settlement was reached on April 17, 2014, in which founding members Wilton, Rockenfield and Jackson were awarded the rights to the band trademark, continuing to play with the lineup that additionally includes singer La Torre and guitarist Lundgren. During the time, both parties could use the name Queensrche, Tate created his own lineup featuring former guitarist Gray and musicians from bands including Blue yster Cult, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Dio, AC/DC and Quiet Riot. This version of Queensrche with Geoff Tate released the album Frequency Unknown on April 23, 2013, while Queensrche (with La Torre replacing Tate) released their eponymous album on June 24 and 25, 2013 (European and American release date, respectively). In 1988, Queensryche released their third album, Operation: Mindcrime. To this day, this album is not only Queensryche's crowning achievement, it's one of progressive metal's many masterpieces. Featuring strong influence from Pink Floyd (The Wall, to be more specific), Operation: Mindcrime is a fifteen track concept album that lasts for an hour. It contains very tight playing from each member of the band and musicality is on point. One of the most notable fact about this album is how well it flows and is structured in general, the ending of a track is the beginning of the next one and so on, however most tracks stand very well on their own. If you're a progressive metal fan, this is essential. It sets a high-point for the genre, and the concept itself is brilliant. Five stars. One of the most impressive things about this album is how quintessential it is. It features many typical prog metal elements that would be used later on. Maybe not the technicality of Dream Theater, but the dynamic aspect within each song, along with the balancing between mellow and soft tracks and heavy, distorted sections. All these aspects are present in Operation: Mindcrime in the album format of a concept album, which helps to the continuity of the album, and allows for easy full- listens. For any Prog Metal fan: This is truly essential. Tons of progressive metal albums and bands branch from this type of concept and music, including some highly known ones such as Dream Theater and, to some certain extent, Fates Warning. Five Stars. Review by Menswear Prog Reviewer. I will not moan about how Tate and Friends painfully fell down the stairs of glory right into the ungrateful puddle of has-beeniry. I will not emphasize that they've lost their mojo when DeMarco left and that they clutched at the straws of the past. We get it: they divorced, now mommy and daddy are living their lives apart. But I will say this: there is still gasoline in the creative tank of Queensryche. Grimy and aggressive. Imaginative and catchy. Masterful and polished. Many times I pressed the replay button, thing that won't happen with an Henry Cow record by the way. I am surprised as you are, many times I stopped the song exclaiming: 'Wow! What was that?!' Surprisingly well- played, Scott Rocks is pounding cleverly on the drums and Michael Wilton is showing us that he still knows what duelling guitars mean. Great vocals by Tate, who seems to spit vitriol with energy and maestria (read balls). You can clearly hear his enthusiasm and it's contagious. Top that with, again this time, majestic choirs and religious and orchestrated strings. On the less exciting side, the love story is taking too much space. The concept of the revolution leaded by Doctor X is putted more aside to let Rikki's guilt and sadness sing. Hmph. Not the path I would have chosen. Yes, Sister Mary won't come back, but after 18 years in the can, I thought Rikki would've been more pissed at the world. Again, less love, more rock please? You will think:This guy's obviously a fan. He sugarcoates it. Nope, uh-uh. In this world where Ayreon, Dream Theater and Blind Guardian lead the metal-opera, Mindcrime 2 is less over-the-top, dirtier (Rikki's greasy hair and filthy fingernails), more accessible and far less dizzying the the others. You easily grow tired (and bored) of double albums of metallic tugs of war, not the case here. A few duds but nothing to drown the fun. Being a Queensryche fan is a long and unpredictable road.

Sven Claudio Werner Alex Dany Sieber Festini Schweizer K”stli Sch”rz Bass Guitars Vocals Drums Keyboards www.kharma.ch [email protected] It was a remarkable evening back in May 2004, when Werner öW”n”õ Schweizer (ex-SATROX), Sven Sieber (ex-SLAM DUNK), Toby Spirig (ex-ANEXXE) and Claudio Festini (ex-CORONA) hooked up for a jam session. It immediately became evident that this was one of those magic moments where four established musicians found their collective soul. Two groovy songs were written during one night, which generated appetite for so much more. The story of each individual musician continued, and the new Band öKHARMAõ was born. Later on the long awaited fifth member Dani Sch”rz (ex-SATROX) joined the band as keyboard- Player adding to the well-fitting atmosphere to the KHARMA Sound. As Claudio Festini and his Les Paul came up with their heavy Riffs, Licks and Fills they were immediately assimilated by the other members. Werner Schweizerùs phenomenal voice and the groove section impersonated by Toby Spirig and Sven Sieber made up the songs, which will make everybodyùs hardrockinù heart miss a beat. New songs have been written, more and more breathtaking arrangements have seen the light of day. The result is a rocksound reflecting the high grade of the five musicians each of them being active for more than two decades. As things are changing Toby left KHARMA in October 2007 and was replaced by Alex K”stli, the so created sensational rhythm section leave the axeman Claudio Festini a lot of space for his heavy riffs.

  • Jerry Cantrell Jerry Cantrell
Jerry Cantrell Jerry Cantrell - vocals / guitar Robert Trujillo - bass Mike Bordin - drums From the lyrically and sonically mournful “Psychotic Break” to when the mental and musical exorcism of Jerry Cantrell's nearly 73-minute aural Degradation Trip concludes with the lovely, somnolent, bluesy strains of “Gone,” the singer/guitarist's Roadrunner debut is a sundry and sometimes scary journey to the center of a psyche. It may not always be a pretty trip, but it's a close-to-the-bone excursion that haunts both its creator and its listeners. As the multi-faceted artist relates, “In '98, I locked myself in my house, went out of my mind and wrote 25 songs,” says the then-fully-bearded Cantrell. “I rarely bathed during that period of writing; I sent out for food, I didn't really venture out of my house in three or four months. It was a hell of an experience. The album is an overview of birth to now. That's all,” he grins, though the visceral and haunting songs, by turns soaring and raw, do reflect that often-naked and sometimes-grim truth. “Boggy Depot [his 1998 solo bow] is like Kindergarten compared to this,” he furthers. “The massive sonic growth from Boggy Depot to Degradation Trip is comparable to the difference between our work in the Alice In Chains albums Facelift to Dirt, which was also a tremendous leap.” And all of Cantrell's 25 prolifically penned songs will see the light of day by 2003. Degradation Trip, which will be released June 18, is comprised of 14 songs from the personal, transcendent writing marathon that inspired such self-searching cuts as “Bargain Basement Howard Hughes,” “Hellbound,” and “Profalse Idol.” The second batch of songs—“as sad and brutal as Degradation Trip” —Cantrell promises, are due out on Roadrunner 2003.

Here comes 2020 and that sound you hear and vibration you feel is GEOFF TATE and his band, Operation: Mindcrime, gearing up for their forthcoming tour of America beginning next spring that will celebrate the 30th Anniversary of EMPIRE. • A Queensrÿche Campaign Exclusive
AnybodyListening.net/The Breakdown Room THE BREAKDOWN ROOM PRESENTS: The Making of TRIBE - A Queensrÿche Campaign Exclusive By Brian J. Heaton (Kevin, make my name a link to my web site) 20 years have passed since Queensrÿche left Seattle on its first tour. That jaunt across America, in support of the band’s demo EP, launched a whirlwind career for the five members of Queensrÿche, a journey that shows no signs of slowing down. As the band prepared to begin the support tour for Tribe, Queensrÿche’s eighth full-length studio album due on July 22, 2003, drummer Scott Rockenfield sat down with me to talk about the making of Tribe, and the band’s plans for the future... BH: Good morning Scott! Let’s talk a little about the initial writing period for Tribe, and how the band was thinking going into making the album. SR: Mike, Eddie, Geoff and myself started to compile ideas for Tribe back in the early summer of 2002. We really began focusing on the ideas in the fall and began recording the tracks in late January early February of 2003. Once we started to really focus on the musical and lyrical direction of the record, we found that it was all starting to become a very cohesive body of work. BH: Reports on Queensryche.com and on your label’s web site, Sanctuary Records, mentioned that the writing process began in February 2002.
