    Fates Warning – Theories Of Flight (52:21, CD, Inside Out/Sony Music, 2016) Seit über drei Jahrzehnten halten Fates Warning die Fahne des Progressive Metal hoch und sind eine der respektiertesten Bands in der Szene. Und daran hat sich auch 2016 nichts geändert, veröffentlichten die Männer um Gründungsmitglied und Mastermind Jim Matheos mit „Theories Of Flight“ doch ein wahres Meisterwerk, das in so manchen Jahresrückblicken und Top-10-Listen besondere Beachtung finden wird. Dabei beginnt „Theories Of Flight“ beschaulich. Sehr gemächlich steigt die Band in ‚From The Rooftops‘ ein,Ray Alder singt ruhig die ersten Zeilen. Und dann passiert es: Nach zwei Minuten feuern die Männer bereits aus allen Rohren und rocken die folgenden fünf Minuten auf höchstem Niveau. Komplexität und große Melodien geben sich hier die Hand, schnelle und langsame Parts wechseln sich ab – der Song strotzt nur so vor unglaublicher Spielfreude und Ideenreichtum und legt die Messlatte für die weiteren sieben Tracks des Albums extrem hoch. Mit ‚Seven Stars‘ schließt sich ein sehr eingängiges Stück an. Ja, Fates Warning können auch einfach und vergleichsweise schnörkellos, aber sie überzeugen auch mit dem zweiten Track – ‚Seven Stars‘ ist zweifelsfrei die Single des Albums. Der Mai steht aber erst einmal ganz im Zeichen von „Rhein in Flammen“ und natürlich dem Gastspiel des legendären Circus Roncalli, der ab dem 10. Mai im Stadtgarten gastieren wird. Aber halt – Mai heißt auch Jazz, denn gemeinhin findet im Wonnemonat das Jazzfest Bonn statt und das mit grandiosem Erfolg. Dazu haben wir übrigens ein interessantes Interview mit Pianistin Julia Hülsmann geführt, das ihr auf Seite 44 findet. Am 29. Mai folgt dann die Bonner Theaternacht, auf die sich nicht - wenige Theaterfreunde Jahr für Jahr berechtigterweise sehr freuen. Für die Rocker haben wir Interviews mit Torsten Schramm (Sober Truth/Taktart), den Nachwuchs-Metallern von Hornado und Olli K.s Hot Affair im Heft. Olli K. und Sänger Alex Kaiser berichten hier über die „5 Alben für die einsame Insel“ – sehr schönes Material dabei, wie ich finde.
