When Gilbert gets stuck with Philip as his class partner, he wishes the annoying tattle-tale would just get lost! But soon, Gilbert finds out you must be careful what you wish for!

(2) If you were Gilbert and your sister woke you up like she did in the book, how would you feel? (Answer) Any logical answer. (Follow Up) How do you get up in the morning?

(3) Suppose you were Gilbert and you had to be partners with a person like Philip. How would you feel? (Answer) Any logical answer. (Follow Up) Name a reason that you might not want to be a partner to someone.

(4) Recall where the class was going on their field trip. (Answer) Pilgrim Town. (Follow Up) Describe a Pilgrim.

(5) Define “settlers”. (Answer) Early residents of an area. (Follow Up) Were Pilgrims “settlers”?

(6) Recall what the teacher wanted the students to think about during their visit. (Answer) What they were thankful for. (Follow Up) Name something you are thankful for.

(7) Name some places they visited at the settlement. (Answer) The blacksmith’s shop; the hay barn; the picnic area. (Follow Up) Name another place that might tell you something about how the Pilgrim’s lived.

(9) Name the person who helped Gilbert get out of the bathroom. (Answer) Philip. (Follow Up) Do you think Gilbert was happy about that?

(10) If you were able to live in another time, would you like to have lived as a Pilgrim? (Answer) Any logical answer. (Follow Up) Name something that Pilgrim’s did that we do not do today. Activities

1. Write a narrative about the differences between our lives today and the way that Pilgrim’s lived.

2. Make a list of things that Pilgrim’s would have used.

3. Pretend you are the teacher. You have invited all you students on a field trip. Make an invitation to send to the students. Be sure to include time, place that you are visited, what to wear.

4. Make a list of foods that you may have on Thanksgiving dinner.

Introductions

1. Show the students some items that pertain to Pilgrims. Ask them when, and for who these items would have been used. Let’s read our story today and find out a little about how Pilgrims lived.

2. When the students arrive, have a Pilgrim hat on your head. Ask them if the know who would have worn this. Tell them that today we will read about Gilbert and his class going on a field trip. Let’s read and find out what they learn about Pilgrims
