WYMAN KING ACADEMY BASEBALL TEAM ON 13 THEIR MEMORABLE AND RECORD SETTING SEASON 14 AND TO CONGRATULATE THE “KNIGHTS” ON WINNING 15 THE 2001 SOUTH CAROLINA INDEPENDENT SCHOOL 16 ASSOCIATION CLASS AA BASEBALL STATE 17 CHAMPIONSHIP. 18 19 Whereas, the “Knights” of the W. Wyman King Academy (King 20 Academy) Varsity Baseball Team, through constant teamwork and 21 determination, achieved their goal of winning the school’s first 22 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA 23 Baseball state championship; and 24 25 Whereas, the King Academy Baseball Team completed a record 26 setting twenty-five win season that included a record number of 27 stolen bases in a season with one hundred twenty, a record 28 thirty-four home runs in one season, and a record low team earned 29 run average of 1.95; and 30 31 Whereas, the “Knights” of King Academy worked their way 32 through a tough regular season schedule and, having beaten St. 33 Joseph’s High School and Wardlaw Academy each twice, the 34 “Knights” finished the season undefeated in conference play, 35 winning their fourth conference championship in four years; and 36 37 Whereas, King Academy began its playoff run with a decisive 38 17-2 victory over Colleton Preparatory Academy, and won the 39 lower state title by twice defeating J.F. Byrnes Academy, first in a 40 hard-fought 4-3 victory then in a 12-2 routing; finally the 41 “Knights” moved into the best-two-out-of-three game 42 championship series to face Carolina Academy; and

1 [4230] 1 1 2 Whereas, the first game of the championship series was played on 3 Carolina Academy’s home field, this proved to be no obstacle for 4 the “Knights” of King Academy as they jumped out to a four run 5 lead in the first inning; Carolina refused to quit, however, and tied 6 the game at four; the game continued with a flurry of runs from 7 both teams, but when the dust settled, King Academy held on to 8 win by a score of 10-8; and 9 10 Whereas, the second game of the championship series was played 11 on King Academy’s home field but Carolina took an early 1 run 12 lead; the “Knights” surged ahead in the second inning to lead 2-1, 13 and then added one run in each of the third, fourth, and fifth 14 innings to lead 5-1; although Carolina added another run later, the 15 “Knights’” early runs and late pitching brilliance allowed them to 16 hold on for the victory and their first-ever Baseball State Title; and 17 18 Whereas, the 2001 King Academy Varsity Baseball Team was 19 made up of hard-working student athletes that included Josh 20 Meyer, Zach Matthews, Sid Fallaw, Meredith Havird, Jason 21 Hartley, Taylor Rutland, Trey Padgett, Justin Anderson, Matt 22 Wood, Jonathon Watkins, Wyatt Eidson, Andrew Polatty, Brandon 23 McCormick, Steven Merchant, Nick Willis, Nate Deveney, Randy 24 Sharpe, and Sammy Wheeler; and 25 26 Whereas, the “Knights” captured the state championship under the 27 leadership of Head Coach Mike Prochaska who, as a result of his 28 team’s accomplishments, was named the Region I Class AA Coach 29 of the Year as well the South Carolina Independent School 30 Association Coach of the Year; and 31 32 Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly takes great pride 33 in recognizing the King Academy Varsity Baseball Team for their 34 terrific season of competition and wishes the team members much 35 success in their future endeavors both on and off the athletic field. 36 Now, therefore, 37 38 Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate 39 concurring: 40 41 That the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, 42 commend the players, coaches, and staff of the W. Wyman King 43 Academy Varsity Baseball Team on their memorable and record

1 [4230] 2 1 setting season and congratulate the “Knights” on winning the 2001 2 South Carolina Independent School Association Class AA 3 Baseball State Championship. 4 5 Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to 6 Head Coach Mike Prochaska and the members of the King 7 Academy Varsity Baseball Team. 8 ----XX----
