7th Grade Family Tree Project

Day 1: Project Overview Sample Shapes (May 8) Teachers will explain the scope and sequence of the Family Tree Project. Do a group example of the ESD using shapes.

Day 2: Create Your Family Tree in PowerPoint (May 10) Using the Family Information Form and shapes create a Family Tree in Slide 1 of the Family Tree PowerPoint.

Days 3-4: Sample Collage/Sample Movie--Create Your Collage Using Pictures of Your Family (May 11-12) Students will download six pictures from the Internet on a topic of their choosing. We will use www.pixlr.com to create a sample collage from those six pictures. Use the same pictures to create a movie in Movie Maker.

Students will use www.pixlr.com to create a photo edited Efficient Collage of their family members (minimum of six pictures). The collage will be inserted as the background of the Family Tree Slide (Slide 1).

Days 5-6: Create Your Movie Using Pictures of Yourself (May 15-16) Students will use Windows Movie Maker to create a project and convert it into a movie format. The project will consist of 1 Title Slide, 6 pictures slides and a Credits Slide. The slides will utilize a minimum of six still pictures of themselves and will have captions inserted to annotate the picture. For example, students could use school pictures, family pictures or any combination. All slides will have transitions, titles and appropriate slide timing. The completed movie will be placed onto Slide 3 of the Family Tree PowerPoint.

Day 7: Complete PowerPoint/Capture with Screencast-O-Matic/Add Narration and Music (May 17) Students will complete PowerPoint with animation, family collage, and student movie. Next the student will capture the PowerPoint using Jing and convert the PowerPoint to MP4 format. Open the MP4 project by right- clicking and open with Movie Maker and add the narration and music. Remember to adjust narration volume to loudest setting. Turn music volume down to approximately 25%.

Days 8-9: Presenting Family Tree PowerPoints (May 18-19) Students will present their project to their computer class.

Students will use formatting features to enhance their projects. Examples: Font Size and Color, Slide Transitions, Slide Animations, Backgrounds, Audio, Shapes. Students will also link the WMV Movie on Slide 2.

*Students will need to have the Family Tree Information Form returned to their computer teacher before May 10. Six pictures of family for the collage and six pictures including themselves for the movie. *Students may bring pictures via the following methods: 1) flash drive 2) e-mail to K12 student e-mail or 3) via digitools. Pictures need to be in a picture format (jpeg, png, gif). Hard copy pictures may be brought to school for scanning prior to May 8. *Students will not be able to access social media sites to obtain while at school.
