Justified True/False Statement Formative Assessment

Read the statements below. Place a check in the box under “True” if you believe the statement to be true and “False” if you believe the statement to be false. Explain your thinking.

T F Justify your response. 1. Volcanoes are our major source of energy and heat in the atmosphere. 2. Differentiated heating occurs because some Earth materials heat up faster than others. 3. Water molecules may travel different paths in the Earth’s water cycle. For example; some may start the day in the ocean, others from glaciers: others from plants, etc. 4. Given the same amount of solar energy, it takes soil longer to heat up than it does water. 5. Differentiated heating of the different Earth materials (water, sand, soil, etc.) can affect the temperature of the atmosphere. These result in air masses of both high and low pressure. 6. Winds move from high pressure systems to low pressure system. 7. Weather map symbols may include temperature, air pressure, wind speed and direction, type of precipitation and cloud cover.
