In December 2012, ICI has organized the first exhibition about Bhutan at “Le 5 Opéra - Compagnies du Monde” in Paris - France. Encouraged by the huge success of the exhibition "Shamanism", with over 16,000 visitors, ICI decided to show more the Himalayan region and produce a new exhibition about Bhutan. From December 2014 to March 2015 will be held "Bhutan: journey beyond the sky" at our venue in Venice, Magazzino del Caffè. ICI offers a journey through time because, of course, the kingdom of Bhutan with the years has changed considerably. To well understand the history and evolution of this Himalayan country a series of conferences will be organized in collaboration with the Department of Studies on Asia and Africa Mediterranean University Ca’ Foscari Venice, under the direction of teachers Stefano Beggiora and Fabian Sanders, in addition to participation of the Association "Amici del Bhutan". -

Body Acts Queer BODY
Body Acts Queer BODY Body Acts Queer is an exploration of the performative and ideological functions of clothes with regard to gender, feminism and queer. It is an artistic, practice-based thesis in the field of fashion and design. The thesis includes three projects: On & GUNN MAJA ACTS Off, If you were a girl I would love you even more and The Club Scene. In these projects I, using text and bodies, work with acts in which clothes have a fundamental role. By exploring bodily experiences of clothes, I investigate the clothes’ performative and ideological functions, with a focus on cultural, social and heteronormative structures. UNIVERSITY OF BORÅS STUDIES IN ARTISTIC RESEARCH NO 14 2015 14 NO RESEARCH ARTISTIC IN STUDIES UNIVERSITY BORÅS OF QUEER Working with clothing and fashion design from a queer feminist perspective, I transform queer and feminist theory into a creative process. The projects presented in this thesis, together with the discussion, suggest a change in the ways in which MAJA GUNN bodies act, are perceived and are produced within the fashion field, givingexamples of how a queer design practice can be performed. In this thesis, queer design is explored as an inclusive term, containing ideas about clothes and language, the meeting point between fiction and reality and the ability to interpretation and bodily transformations – where desire, bodily experiences and interaction create a change. Yoo Fall 2019 Abstract Orphan, Adoptee, Nation: Tracing the Korean Orphan and Adoptee through South Korean and American National Narratives by Kira Ann Donnell Doctor of Philosophy in Ethnic Studies University of California, Berkeley Professor Elaine H. Kim, Chair The transnational adoption industrial complex established between South Korea and the United States following the Korean War initiated what is sometimes called the “Quiet Migration.” Since then, over 200,000 Korean children have been sent abroad, and the transnational, transracial adoption industry has operations set up in dozens of developing countries worldwide which takes thousands of children annually from their natal homes and places them in adoptive families in Western countries. For the past seventy years, the figures of the Korean orphan and adoptee have held significant meaning in the imaginations of by South Korean and American citizens. The sentimental figure of the Korean orphan became the conduit through which both South Koreans and Americans defined their experiences in the Korean War. The transnational Korean adoptee has become an icon of the United States’ commitment to humanitarianism and diversity and South Korea’s modern branding as a sophisticated and internationally-networked nation. This dissertation explores how United States and South Korean culture and society have used the figures of the Korean orphan and Korean adoptee to construct national identities that reflect its citizens as virtuous, cosmopolitan, and unified. -

She is the visionary consort of Phajo Drugom Zhigpo, the founder of Drukpa Kargyudpa sect in Bhutan in the 13th century. Khandro herself was a great weaver which is evident from the preserved master pieces which are still maintained in Tashi Chhoedzong and Tango Monastery until today. Following such enduring path of legacy, all Bhutanese mothers had embarked on gray cotton weaving mainly to clad their family members and even to barter with other goods domestically or across the borders for the sustenance of their livelihood. -
