AGAGO—On October 20, 2017, thousands of pilgrims from across the world flocked at Wi Polo Paimol Mar- tyrs Shrine in Kalongo Sub County , Agago District, to commemorate the beatification of Blessed Martyrs Daudi Okello and Jildo Irwa. The two Catechists, both of Acholi decent, were killed on October 18, 1918 for refusing to denounce their faith. Okello was only 17 years old while Irwa was the youngest (14 years) by the time they met their death. A section of the pilgrims and the choir at the celebration The duo preached equality against the practice of slavery, witchcraft and clan discriminations contrary to what many believed then. They were beatified by St. Pope John Paul II on October 20, 2002 and since then; the celebration has been gaining rapid momentum as far as the num- ber and devotions of the pilgrims is concerned.
