It forgives all sins that may have been committed prior to a person’s baptism including original sin, mortal sins, and venial sins, and it relieves the punishment for those sins. It makes the newly baptized person “a new creature.” It turns the person into a newly adopted son or daughter of God and incorporates a person into the Church, which is the body of Christ. It brings someone into the flock of the faithful and brings them to share in the royal priesthood of Christ (1 Pet. 2:9-10), which is a share in the common priesthood of all the baptized. Last, but certainly not least, baptism leaves and indelible or permanent spiritual mark (character) on the soul of the person baptized. Anyone who is not baptized can receive the sacrament of Baptism in the Catholic Church. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that “Every person not yet baptized and only such a person is able to be baptized,” (paragraph 1246 Anyone can baptize in danger of death, but the ordinary ministers of this sacrament are the bishops, priests, and deacons. In extreme cases, even an un-baptized person can baptize someone. All that is required is the will to do what the Church does when she baptizes, and to apply the Trinitarian Baptismal formula. "I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." The Catholic Church recognizes any baptism that uses water with the Trinitarian formula. 3 A godparent or a sponsor is someone who bears witness to a child's baptism and then aids in their catechesis, as well as their lifelong spiritual formation. According to the Code of Canon Law, "Insofar as possible, one to be baptized is to be given a sponsor who is to assist an adult in Christian initiation, or, together with the parents, to present an infant at the baptism, and who will help the baptized to lead a Christian life in harmony with baptism, and to fulfil faithfully the obligations connected with it" (No. 872). Our Diocese limited the maximum number of Children for a God parent to 15. LG 214. A child for infant baptism must not exceed 3 years of age. LG 216. The converts from the protestant church should be entered in the register and given new baptism tickets. It is not allowed to only baptize adults who are traditionally married without receiving the sacrament of matrimony at the same ceremony unless you have the permission of the local ordinary. It is not allowed to baptize an adult who has exceeded the age of reason without receiving catechism instructions. Fr.
